At least he won't miss game time come next season.

his offseason training... which consists of punching cab drivers and hiding an asshole persona behind the limelight. if there's a free ride anywhere, you'll have to get through patty k to get it.

condescending. i can deal with it. what i can't deal with is a person making millions of dollars partaking in activities that result in controversy and physical altercations with individuals who provide them a service that is taken for granted.

perhaps my reaction is harsh. perhaps i have no sympathy for pricks like kane.

Give people second chances to redeem themselves?

I guess not. One incident in a life is very low on the crime pole. Everyone commits crimes, mostly speeding, but still a crime.

What he did does speak pretty badly about his character. Even though he was young at the time, it is still inexcusable; however, I don't think the ENTIRE instance characterizes him. I'm sure he learned his lesson, but it was pretty douche-tastic.

No, but people forget about the shit we do over time, or make a funny story about it.

Assault, depending on the degree is nothing. You can get assault based on barely touching someone. A small smack is assault.

He was young and stupid, and we all do stupid shit when we are young and drunk. Better to assault a cab driver then drive drunk and accidentally kill someone.

The highest charge that actually stuck was 3rd degree assault. You know what else is 3rd degree assault? Running the the bathroom and knocking someone down on the way, causing them to be injured.

What he did was stupid, but from a legal perspective, it was small potatoes. The grand jury threw out all the felony charges, which means there was not enough evidence to sustain them.

Basically, this happens about 100 times a weekend on Chippewa, and nobody hears about it because it's not Patrick Kane doing it.

Okay but if I go out and punch someone in the face, that's not right. He hit the guy.

I never said it was right.

I'm not advocating that people run around punching people over minor disputes. I'm simply commenting on what you said about it not being 'low on the crime pole'.

It really is, at least what he was charged with.

Our amazing justice system at work. What he DID was ROBBERY and yes cab drivers get robbed all the time. It is avery dangerous job. I don't know about you but robbery is pretty high on the ole totem pole of crime in my book. The justice system is over burdened so deals are made to relieve the case load. His "status" and lack of a criminal record definitely helped him get a very good plea deal.

Anyone knowing the right lawyer could have got a plea deal like him.

Most first timer would get a similar plea in similar circumstances. I'm was just expressing my opinion that what he did wasn't just childs play or nothing. It was a serious crime

Except he wasn't indicted with robbery. Therefore, by our legal system, he did not rob anyone.

When you're arrested, the cops can charge you with anything they want. You can punch someone in the face, and be charged with attempted murder if they want to.

After your arrest, the charges go before a judge or grand jury. That entity decides if there is enough evidence to sustain the charges that are presented. If not, the charge is dismissed.

The grand jury in this case threw out the felony robbery charges. You can pontificate all you want about what he did or did not do, but the facts are that the legal system said what he did wasn't felony robbery.

This shit happens ALL THE TIME in Buffalo. Drunk idiots get in fights with each other , cabbies, hot dog vendors, whoever. They get nabbed, charged with misdemeanor felonies, and end up getting suspended sentences if they're first timers. This assertion that Kane got off easy because of his status is just dumb.

First time offenders charged with misdemeanor assault DON'T GET JAIL TIME.
