I've always hated the fact that they call it the DMV. It's fucking annoying, because whenever I say I have to go to the DMV for license stuff (which they retardedly call the MVA because of the DMV "confusion") everyone seems to think I'm talking about the place, rather than, ya know, the Department of Motor Vehicles.

Ohh, that's another thing you'll have to get used to down here. Maybe it's just the county I live in, but I notice a lot of people around here are really, really stupid.

So my best advice is to pretend I-95 doesn't exist for 20 out of the 24 hours in a day. It will usually make your ride much easier, or at least more pleasant.

And I'm always up to meet up with you if you come down to the Hurricane and Sabres games.

I hate the DMV moniker too but, I believe, it's relatively new. MVA has always been the MVA because Maryland just has to be different. Stupid people are all over the area. Trust me, I deal with them daily with what I do for a living. You're going to school in Maryland, right???

Sadly I have no choice. It's either 95 or Rt.1, sooooooo many choices. Although they've needed another N/S route for 10-15 years they can't because we can't ruin the Rappahannock River

Really? I always just assumed they said MVA because of the DMV thing. Though it doesn't surprise me that Maryland just wants to be different. Maryland is pretty stupid sometimes.

And, no, I go to school at UB actually. I'm just home in Maryland for breaks and such. I really can't imagine having stayed here for schooling.

Ah, I knew there was some sort of MD connection we discussed before. I try to stay away from Maryland as much as possible. Only go there when I fly out of BWI...lol

I absolutely know what you mean, and I know Rt 1 fairly well. So long as you time it right, you can get someplace much faster by hopping off 95.

I love the DC Area banter. My commute is on 66, since I live in Falls Church and work in Fairfax, and it's only bad going east in the AM and west in the PM, 495 is one of those neverending construction zones, and with the dulles metrorail project, don't expect any travel to be easy.

I'd suggest finding a home near a Metro stop, as that will be your easiest access into DC. The Verizon center is at a metro stop (Chinatown), and that makes it easy to go to games. The fans at games are like many other well-tempered bases, when they'll compliment you when your team wins and beat you down (verbally) when they lose.

You'll get some great hands-on experience with politics here, enough that the CAX (read NYC style as 'cox') Coalition Against X-Check may finally thwart his attempts at appearing blatantly conservative, but attempting to be bi-partisan. </sarcasm>

Let us know when you move and maybe just maybe we'll stop over and lend a hand, of course there has to be free pizza and wings and beer ;)

And on the NE DC note, I have a friend who lives in Laurel and have visited a few times but, holy hell stay away from there. 95 is a nightmare, BW Parkway doesn't help, and route 1 has too many accidents.

If you are a history nut you will really love it in the Mid-Atlantic area. You have battlefields and museums galore. Fort McHenry is very cool if you ever get a chance to visit there. All the museums in DC are interesting. You can visit Washingtons home, absolutely beautiful. Try to visit there in the fall if you can. Good camping in Assateague. I also recommend that in the fall. The horseflies and masquitos are terrible when it is warm out. You camp right out on the water and wild horses run around the island and through your camp site. Philly is also awesome. You can see where they signed the Decleration and such. Just giving out a few ideas if you have not already seen these things.

Holy crap! There are tons of you guys who have lived there. So all together how many of you live down there now?

Sorry I didn't get back on here sooner, been neck deep in projects around the house. Once I get out there I'm sure I'll be asking you guys where top go camping, hiking and the like. right now we're just trying not to freak out about the house here and get everything in order for a renter.

Hiking in Shenandoah
Spelunking in Luray
Camping in the mountains
Marveling at some waterfalls

If you enjoyed starry nights, you'll have to get used to tons of light pollution.
NE/NW/SE are all bad parts of DC, SW gets some, but not nearly as many as the rest IMO.

I've been spoiled. I have been stationed in Washington state, Germany and Colorado so when it comes to the outdoors I'm gonna have to shift gears a bit. On one hand though I have been dying to get out on the Appalachian trail ever since reading Bill Bryson's book A Walk in the Woods. I might go from camping every other weekend to maybe only once or twice a year but make them big trips. The best part is though that compared to Texas, Florida and the places I mentioned earlier, I'm gonna be wicked close to home for the first time in 12 years.

I've been camping near Luray and in the Shenandoah quite a few times - definitely a lot of fun. They've got some decent camp sites set up so as to not disturb the vegetation, but so much of a drive out that you actually are in the wild.

Not sure what type of ride you have but if you drive a SUV or truck you can drive on the beaches in Assateague as well. Growing up as a kid I have very fond memories of wheeling the Mountaineer up close to the water. Great fishing as well.

DC Zoo, Merriweather (need to see concerts here) but dont waste your money on close seats. You are better off with general admission lawn seats, Baltimore Aquarium, Camden Yards is a good place to catch a ball game.
