didn't the nhl/khl just sign an agreement that they wouldn't poach players anymore?

as a free agent, it isnt poaching. i believe the main issue was radulov was actually in the middle of a contract.

but he's a restricted free agent, isn't he?

doesn't that mean he is still our property technically?

It means that the Sabres have exclusive negotiating rights with the player in the NHL. Doesn't mean he can't negotiate in other leagues if he wants to.

I'm just not sure if we can find another backup goalie who can make more than 100% of saves in a night. That's a sort of magic that only Jhonas knows.

It's a great negotiation tactic. Put the pressure on the Sabres and give yourself a lucrative plan B. This agent might be crazy like a fox.

I think the guy has a shot at being a starter in the NHL someday. KHL would mean more playing time and money in the near future, but it could cost him the chance of ever getting a starting job in the NHL. I have this gut feeling that he's a really competitive guy and wouldn't be satisfied with taking the money in the KHL if he thinks he's got a shot in the NHL. So I'm not too worried about him heading to Russia.

Man, I sure know a lot about this guy I've never met, don't I? ;) :D

No. Radulov was different. Radulov had already signed a contract and then went to the KHL. Since there was no transfer agreement, the NHL couldn't do anything about it.
