they could have traded him before. you can trade the rights to RFA's, then the new team deals with signing the player. They can still trade him but i don't see it happening. i've got a feeling he is on Ruff's favorite list along with Jochen Hecht.

The Sabres do have a glut of worthy defensemen and prospects. I'd like to see them use some of that (maybe next offseason) to bring in some help with the forwards. Not depth help, but top line help. Defense is probably the best place to be deep, but they've got a couple guys who could challenge for spots on many teams and a slew of younger prospects working their way up as well. I just don't want to see so many quality defensemen go unused (or have their growth stunted) when they clearly need help up front.

We don't have the cap space for top line help. If Darcy plans to create room via trade he needs some prospects for trade bait. No one will trade for Kotalik or Morrisson alone.

I just hope that Darcy has had a plan all along because our cap situation reminds me of the Devils last year.

If you're going to spend to the cap, you're going to deal with stuff like this.

You're basically looking at the team that will hit the ice. Kotalik and ShaMo will be on Rochester. Everyone else will be here.

If we manage to sign Gragnani I won't be too concerned. We'll have great depth on D and Sekera and Gragnani can play forward if they have to.
