Not that it's in any way surprising, it's just pretty sad because she was so young and could never get the help she needed.

I love her music, she was so talented. I had a theory that she was going to outlive us all despite her self-destruction, kind of like Keith Richards. Apparently I'm not the only one who had that theory considering he's trending on Twitter right now. Poor Amy.

I thought so too but I started doubting myself when I was posting.

She wasn't anywhere near talented enough to be in the same sentence as those artists. Just a middle of the road junkie who could sing.

im sure she could have gotten the help or was actually given the help. it seems like she just kept falling of the wagon every time.

Sure, she could have gotten the help, but my point was that she had a choice in it. She couldn't get the help from within because she didn't want to get the help. You can have every option available to you to rehabilitate yourself when money isn't an issue, but if you don't want to fix the problem it will continue on.

She was in rehab many times both voluntarily and involuntarily.
She didn't lack help or support.

You can go check yourself into rehab just to save face or to appease someone, you don't necessarily have to do it because you want to. I truly believe if a drug addict wants to break free of their addiction, they can do it. She didn't allow herself to get help.

Yeah, I've read a lot of her interviews over the years and she never really seemed very committed in changing her lifestyle or trying to stop her addiction. Her father's words were telling to. I think she was just very troubled and didn't want to stop her reckless lifestyle.

I'm not saying she did want help, just that it wasn't a lack of it being offered.

She wanted to kill herself. She succeeded. No one should feel bad about it IMO.

also...Shane MacGowan would like to remind everyone that Keith Richards is a lightweight.

I never said it wasn't being offered or even that it wasn't available to her. I clarified that I meant she couldn't get the help she needed because she didn't want it. You can sit through countless stints in rehab and never get anything out of it.

I feel sorry that she couldn't overcome her addiction. Derek Boogaard couldn't overcome his, either. Just because they killed themselves through self destruction doesn't mean we can't feel bad about it. Addiction is an illness like any other.

That was my immediate reaction.

Also, Kurt Cobain and Jim Morrison.

No, it's not.
