Not sure how it would be hard to get behind him.

He could have made a heck of a lot more money to go over there, but he chose to stay.

That's a guy I'll support 100%.

Well, I guess we differ on opinion then. If we heard Miller was a "plane ticket away" from signing with Montreal, or Boston, or Toronto, i'm sure our opinion of him would naturally change a bit, regardless if he ended up signing with us.

I.E it would be easier to "get behind him" if he knew the Sabres were always the plan.

"Plane ticket away" seems like a pretty drastic change of mind to me.

I really don't think that applies to this situation.

But yea I guess, how mad would you guys have been if he took off for the KHL?

The fact that he didn't doesn't change the fact that he had a mindset of going over there.

If anyone read my first post...I reiterated that it was a good thing and hopefully it works out, which is exactly what you're trying to say to me now.

If he was really that close to leaving for the KHL, why would a two year deal at under 700k per season change his mind? That doesn't seem to make sense. Did Buffalo offer one year and he wanted two? Is the deal somehow actually 1.35 mil per season, despite what capgeek listed?

I think earlier in this thread they confirmed 1.35 a year.

I interpret "plane ticket away" to mean that the framework of a contract was agreed to. It didn't mean that he accepted it, but simply that Enroth's agent and the KHL team agreed to terms.

Enroth chose to explore all his options, and as a restricted free agent, he didn't have a lot of them. With all the cards in play, he chose ours. I'll take that player every day, because given the option to leave, they WANTED to stay.

The Capgeek numbers are correct. Mike Harrington confirmed them.

Yes, I think All-Star Vezina winning starting goalie Ryan Miller considering options with other teams or leagues to be somewhat of a tough pill to swallow.

However, backup goalie who wants to start somewhere because he's... not so much of an afterthought, but still the number 2 goalie here, and because he'd get more money? Yeah, I wouldn't, and don't, blame him as much.

For those wondering why Enroth chose to stay here for less over two years than what he was offered by Minsk for one year, it was because (according to Enroth) the Sabres decided to give him the one way deal he wanted when the threat of the KHL arose. Yes, he took less money to stay in the NHL, but it was never about the money - it was about getting the one-way deal. And he got it. So he stayed.

i mean, i understand the current islanders logo is classic and simplistic, and that logo was... well it was right up there with the pistons teal horse logo, but for some reason, i LOVED that logo.

To expand on what that means, that means that he makes the same amount of money, whether he plays in the NHL or the AHL. If he got a two-way deal, if he was sent to the AHL, his salary would take a drastic hit. He just wanted salary stability, and that's what he got.

He didn't care about financial security. His reason for demanding the one-way deal is he feels he's finally become an NHL goaltender and doesn't want to go back to the AHL. He wants the NHL playing time, even if it's only 15/20/maybe 25 games.
