Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier today announced the team has assigned the following 14 players to the Rochester Americans (AHL):

Forwards Marcus Foligno, Zack Kassian, Jonathan Parker, Michael Ryan, Colin Stuart, Corey Tropp, Phil Varone and Derek Whitmore; defensemen TJ Brennan, Joe Finley, Brayden McNabb, Dennis Persson and Drew Schiestel; and goaltender Drew MacIntyre.

MacIntyre, Persson, Ryan and Stuart have each been assigned pending waivers.

This leaves the Sabres with 27 players still in training camp (16 forwards, 8 defensemen and three goaltenders).

Foligno and Kassian didn't make it.

as they shouldn't have. they will do well in the AHL but they were no where near the nhl level yet. they need some time to develop fully.

I am kind of surprised Adam never got sent to Rochester. Maybe he plays Hecht out a job??

Adam is playing some good hockey. I'm sure once Hecht is back fulltime Adam gets sent down. They said that the battle for the last spot is McCormick, Adam and Ellis. I don't see Ellis getting that spot and I see Adam and McCormick the last spot and the reserve.

Yup, never said Kassian and Foligno should have made it. They were a non-factor, even in preseason games. Adam though, has a shot at taking a spot, Matt Ellis will likely be in Rochester and we'll see what kind of line-up Ruff wants. Let's say the top 2 lines are (for the moment, until Ruff mess them up in the 2nd period of the 1st game) 26-9-29 and 63-23-21. The Goose-PK-Gerbe line is pretty much set, so who do you want playing with Boyes and Hecht? A scorer or an agitator. I think Adam could make it.

I'm guessing Ruff will want a veteran that can handle sitting or coming in out of the press box cold. I think they'll want Adam playing as much as possible in Rochester, because I can't see Adam beating out Ellis AND starting in place of McCormick.

Right now the lines are deep on skill, and average on grit, so that might also give Ellis the edge. Let's say a top six forward gets hurt. Gerbe, Boyes, or Hecht could easily move up to cover any forward position, with Ellis taking a bottom six spot. Adam would not only have to beat Ellis, but be able to fill in a top six spot if needed. I don't think there's enough confidence in Adam right now to play well defensively or in a checking role at all. I think Adam will go to Rochester until two injuries.

As for lines, for now it seems like Ruff has a good idea what he wants...

Vanek-Roy-Pominville
Ennis-Leino-Stafford
Gerbe-Gaustad-Kaleta
McCormick-Hecht-Boyes

You can basically flip flop the 3rd and 4th lines at any time, and flip flop McCormick and Hecht between LW and C at any time. None of it probably matters much though as much as Ruff tinkers.
