Good for Danny. I think he'll do well under (the more disciplined system of) Claude Julien.

We actually made a trade. (!)

We needed the cap and got a decent return.

Good deal all around - Though I will miss the kid. At his best, a very gritty and talented forward. Greener pastures and fair winds.

a 3rd and a 4th isn't a terrible return for what is still very much a prospect, 'could be' kinda guy

So long Dannie. At least you weren't sent to the Leafs.

Didn't we give a draft pick to Boston that ended up being Wideman?

Wideman was actually drafted by the Sabres, but walked because we couldn't sign him. Right? Or am I confusing him with Zigomanis?

We missed the deadline, and he walked as a UFA.

Went to St. Louis, I believe - Acquired by Boston in a trade.

We also got Steve Atkinson from Boston in the expansion draft.

The "Snail" ...maybe the worst Sabre player of all time.

Zigomanis and Wideman were draft choices who Buffalo elected not to sign. Ziggy signed with Carolina; Dennis with St. Louis. St. Louis dealt Wideman to Boston for Brad Boyes, which has worked out well for both teams.

Wasn't he just not good for the Sabres anyway?

I'm glad Paille will get a chance to play now. He will do fine in Boston and he should get way more icetime there.

Decent player who could always get better still.

Yeah, I'm satisfied with that trade. Its good for Paille not to be sitting in the press box for 1/4 of the season.

Atkinson, Randy Wyrozub, Norm Lacombe, Skip Krake, Ray MacKay, Joe Kowal, David Littman, Randy Hillier, Jim Korn......., players who made you question if they were really as bad as they appeared. Sadly, they were.... :?

He was signed for 800K.

Before we moved Paille we had a million left.

Not a cap clearing move to bring in biron, we could have brought him without trading a player with salary against our cap.

Good trade. Boston was probably the only team willing to take him for a draft pick, as it looks like they stand a good chance at landing Hall or Kabanov this summer and a 3rd rounder doesn't seem as important to them. A late 3rd rounder isn't bad; we could still get a good goalie at that position, freeing up our three higher picks for forwards and dmen.

The conditional 4th rounder kicks in if Paille scores 16 or more goals. I'd bet against that happening, because even if he gets consistent ice time, it's not going to be as a scorer; Boston has a pretty deep offense even with Kobasew and such players gone (remember they were essentially playing without Sturm or Bergeron for much of last year), and they have better prospects in their pipeline from a pure offensive standpoint. Can he get 16 goals playing with the likes of Bitz and Thornton?

Yes, I would have gotten rid of Hecht or Mair before Paille. No, this wouldn't have been possible, because no one wants Hecht or Mair. Paille at least has trade value.

Vanek, Macarthur, Hecht, and change (Ellis or McCormick or Mair) are our left wingers. I'd like it if Gerbe got 20 or more games in as well.

Well as some of you know Paille is my favorite player, and I am one of his biggest supporters.

Little shocked to be honest, but my reaction will need a few days to settle.

I do not understand why we can pay Hecht the money that we do and trade away Paille for some future floaters that we'll never use.

Trading Hecht (and a 2nd rounder, because it might need that) for a 5th rounder would have been a better move.

BOOOOOOOOOO

Maybe we trade our new 3rd for Biron?

I love the trade, how many times can you unload a draft bust who has played one game for a 3rd and 4th (maybe) round pick?
