I dunno. I've just become totally disinterested in politics. Again. There isn't a party or candidate that gives a shit about anything other than keeping their donors happy, and keeping their pockets lined. Anyone who says otherwise is just bullshitting.

Ron Paul...but that's like voting for Nader.

I give Paul credit for his consistancy of positions, even though there are many I disagree with.

I probably won't bother voting in the next presidential election because my vote does not matter. Only the dollar does.

it's interesting that you're so apparently agitated by my surprise at there being a lack of discussion on this in the forum until now. isn't that what the politics sub-forum is for? if so, then why chastise me for simply wondering why there wasn't any discussion?

also, i wasn't asking for everyone to discuss in support of the demonstrations, if that's what you were inferring from my post. i was simply wondering why there wasn't any discussion up until this point. thank you, though, for responding to me in such a brash, condescending manner.

as far as the occupy wall street protests are concerned, i'm glad something is finally happening. i just hope it continues to intensify and spread. this has the potential to become greater than the events of paris in may 1968, mostly because it encompasses many age groups and professions rather than just students. the unifying force of the movement is the very ambiguity that it is criticized for - it is as broad as the reach of existing socioeconomic disparities. critics fail to realize that the same corporate interests and loopholes and government interference by lobbyists that are being complained about are things obama has sought to address whilst being further cock-blocked by congress. don't worry, though. democracy will ensure that capitalism prevails...

I chastised you? [citation needed]
I wasn't even responding to you...touchy much?

WTF are you talking about dude...I never responded to or referenced you in any way...you're coming off a bit paranoid.

though sarcasm can be a useful tool, it is also easily misused.

you can call it a generalization, but the comment was sparked by my thread in the first place, thereby making it refer specifically to my query and causing any resulting sarcasm to be directed towards my question. perhaps i'm taking it too personally, but what else is there to do with sarcasm?

Use it to generate more sarcasm.

Yoshi responded with sarcasm first, just sayin'.

But hey, my reputation precedes me...I can handle it.

you're right. i felt that the sarcasm, in that instance, was poorly contrived, or at least unworthy of response. i guess you provoked my response, though, and you should feel accomplished for that.

i'm also sorry to have responded to yoshi's sarcasm in such a negative manner. i know how great the sense of self is over the "interwebz", and how much greater the defensive reaction must then be to any opposition.

In my case it has been a loss of faith that American democracy can survive American capitalism.

Capitalism isn't the problem...people and governments thinking they can manipulate capitalism is the problem.

that seems as though it should fall into one of those "it works on paper" scenarios.

capitalism can't be governed, and it certainly can't follow the regulations it is expected to follow. capitalism is as much the problem as the people who define and enact it.

i do have to say, though, that since corporations can't be people, then capitalism can't represent a solid manifestation of what "the problem" is. however, it is an abstraction that has taken form in the material world, and as such, it has become a psychological issue that presses moral issues and, in this manner, escapes the semantic blame game that often vilifies socialism or communism in the same context. how is that?

Governments manipulating capitalism isn't the concern. It's the other way around.

I love how there are people here, and all over the nation, who support handing the reigns of society over to the rich, when they themselves are probably no more than a major illness away from the poorhouse. No one here is in the 1%, yet there are those who defend them. Why? Because they think they have a shot at becoming part of that 1%. Sad. 31 years of deregulation and tax cuts for the rich, and the average person is far worse off than he/she was that same time ago. So shit starts getting worse, and keeps getting worse, and what is their great answer? Cut regulation, cut taxes. You guys are such suckers to believe in spite of the facts.
