I disagree that if Android had one brand of phone that it would beat the iPhone. The app store would still be lacking, the touch screens would still suck in comparison to the iPhone, and I think Apple's interface would still be easier to use. Android phones have great vanity specs, but those don't matter if the OS inherently sucks without user manipulation. I like my phone to work out of the box and Apple does that just right.

I prefer a phone I can tweak until I say it's right.

I won't get an iPhone but if I did the first thing I'd do is jail break it.
I understand a lot of Apple users outright prefer not to be engaged in the technology involved in the experience, but I love it.

It's more than hilarious reading OS X "technical" forums where regular Mac users are trying to give unix advice.

I understand that it's different strokes for different folks. I wouldn't say Android sucks overall just because I dislike it. I would say I am more tech savvy than the average user (and I know how to Google shit), but I also prefer simplicity because I am really impatient and don't like to tinker with things.

i personally love android. absolutely love it. ive yet to have any issues, and ive played with iphones and droids. i felt the iphone OS was cumbersome and clunky. that was me. im sure i just didnt play with it through the learning curve. the X i got, i was figuring it out within an hour of owning it. im just an android fan. i see android getting better and better, and with google buying motorola, youll likely see motorola droids skyrocket in quality.

at the end of the day, its just a piece of technology you own. i just dont find that iphone that spectacular that i need to be reminded that my droid sucks.

and i truly do believe apple is similar to a cult to many people.

That's exactly what I do. I have a stable of Cydia apps that I use regularly, and I don't upgrade my phone until the jailbreak for that revision is released. People will bitch and say you shouldn't have to, but I don't think any company will ever release an OS that will have everything I want in it.

A truly ignorant statement. Nobody is buying consumer electronics because they're somehow indoctrinated and brainwashed.

They're buying them because they work for them, and they like them. Not because they're lemmings who get a boner swiping their Mastercard at the Apple store.

You guys can be pretty retarded sometimes.

Do you really care that much about what consumer electronics that SOMEONE ELSE USES? If you don't like it, fine. I get that. But you spend an awful lot of time grousing about the fact that lots of people like something that you don't.

it's amazing, a lot of time all you do is acknowledge how stupid people are...then once in a great while, you defend those people saying they are smarter than given credit.

i don't buy products from apple because i did once and it didn't work for me. guaranteed there are thousands more like me. i will also guarantee that there ARE people that just buy apple products because they previously worked for them- like my friend gene. i'd bet a pound of flesh nearest to my heart (name that book) that there are many more like him.

while irony may have used the wrong words, you not acknowledging people are stupid with their money and with technology is completely out of character for you.

I really don't think there's a cult-like attitude with Apple products. Sure, there are some people who will buy an Apple product just because it's an Apple product or who view it as a social status symbol, but I don't really see that as being any different than any other brand loyalty one may have. Obviously some people were seemingly over-the-top about Steve Jobs' death, but I was definitely sad when I found out he died. Even if he was a giant douche, Apple has impacted my life in many ways and I love its products. The stuff I own of Apple's likely would not exist if weren't for him returning to Apple.

So, Tom, when are we meeting for our Apple praising ritual with the group again? That was really fun!

Buy what you want. Use what you want.

Just don't insult my intelligence by telling me I'm some lemming who only buys Apple products because I'm a brainwashed cultist.

I've got some people I can introduce you to that would change your mind.

there is absolutely a cult-like following with apple. and i dont think anyone here is in that gap. maybe one person, but thats it. not tom or beth.

at the end of the day, its just a piece of technology i own. but some of those apple fanbois are people i loath.

if you disagree, thats cool too.

There are INDIVIDUALS that worship every product Apple makes. There are also INDIVIDUALS that worship everything Microsoft does.

Problem is nobody ever gets accused of being a Microsoft fanboi........

I do not think I have ever owned an Apple product, though I suppose you could count "owning" itunes, which I've used less and less since college. Never owned a mac, an ipod, or an iphone and probably never will unless there are significant advantages to doing so. So I don't have much of an opinion on Jobs. Yuck to the stuff in that story though.

I've never owned an Apple product, either, and have never even used iTunes.

I am considering asking my parents for a Macbook Pro for a Christmas or graduation gift, entitled though it would make me feel. My current laptop is an HP from 2008 and is becoming outdated/slow at this point (that may improve after I move all my pictures to an external hard drive, though). I have friends with Macbooks from 2004-2006 that are still in excellent condition, not bogged down by anything. From what I've gathered, this is pretty common. I need my next laptop to last as long as possible because I probably won't be able to afford another for quite a few years despite somewhat reducing costs (I wish I were exaggerating) and would like to get at least 5-7 years of average functionality out of my next one before it dies.

I haven't seen the superiority of Apple over other products in the past, but for pure longevity purposes, I covet one of those.
