I’ll be gathering some team stats and the regular, “Tale of the tape” BS to add into this one a bit later, as well as streams when they become available, but first I wanted to share my take on not only the game, but the entire event of what a game day in down town Buffalo has been like from our own experiences on (home) opening day.

Usually we roll into town from the QEW around 9’ish am Image and keep right to HSB… I mean the FN Center for morning skate. Walk around the arena and check out the newest additions for displays and changes from last season.

Image

Hook up with Phil and Missy to exchange greets (Along with the occasional Alexander Keith’s and Lafontaine jerseys)

Image

and then wander around the rink for a bit hashing over the usual; heavy metal tunes, plays from recent games and offer insight as to what line combos Lindy may start out with for the game . Then, head out back to snag some autographs

Image

Image

Then check in at the hotel, dump our shit there and take in everything that the city has to offer. Either Fat Bobs or Pearl Street Pub for a Beef on Weck & Widow Maker of train wreck.

Image

Having a chance to see some of the amazing architecture the downtown scene has to offer, I gatta say, there are more works of art in the downtown district than any place I have been before. Some of the buildings (Churches included) might just rival that of old Montreal.

Getting closer to game time, it’s time to hit the pub for another round of Beers (I usually have my last pre-arena beer in the form of a Sabres Edge) then follow the sea of Blue & gold down to the foot of Washington Street where you may not know the person next to you, but there is always a common bond. Also, gathering for a few beers in the plaza with awesome friends & gearing up for a fresh start on the season is always a great photo op :P

Image

In the past if all went well, there was always the stop on the way out for a post Sabres win with Mel, and then it is off into the night with the chants of, “LET’S GO BUFFALO!!!” still ringing in your ears.

Image

It kills us that we won’t be there to take in this home opener, the first under the new regime but we’ll be there in spirit. We already have our beast ready to cook for Beef on Weck, beer is chilling in the fridge, jerseys have been washed and the hockey stick chairs have been given one last tune up for this one.

It’s go time!

LET’S GO BUFFALO!!!

I'm already chilling a special bottle of beer for this first "normal" game of the season.

I bet the F'n center is going to be electric.

I wish I could be at this game. I guess getting drunk and screaming on the couch will have to suffice.

I like the personalized flavor of this GDT. Well done. Now let's get a win.

Oh man I am psyched for this game...I'm having a couple quasi-canes fans over for dinner, and oh look, the sabres happen to be playing as well. Looks like we can all sit here and watch my boys kick the crap out of your hurricanes. (crap we'd better win...)

Nice, whatcha got prepared? I'll be enjoying my newest batch, the "Black Oatmeal IPA", a strong double IPA with chocolate malt and half a pound of oatmeal. Experimental, but yummy as hell.

Best GDT ever. I mean that.

Don, I need to be informed next time you make the trip dammit! I'm taking that day off work. Your routine is much better than mine. :)

I was fortunate enough to get suite tickets for tonight. I'll be taking this game in from the double suite directly across from the owner's box. Very lucky!

Sour stuff...Rodanbach Grand Cru and a Jolly Pumpkin La Roja

I like oatmeal in beers, it gives a nice creamy mouthfeel but can lend itself to hazing.
I went through a phase where I would put a little oats and a little wheat in every beer I made just to boost mouthfeel and head retention.

prost.

Damn still 8 hours 2 minutes until faceoff, what do I do until then? Only so much porn one man can watch during the course of a day.

(Oh yeah, I'm making GDTs awkward, its kind of my thing these days)

This may be a game I have to keep on my TiVo indefinitely....
Pegula's first game and the end of last season was great, but this game truly feels like the beginning of a new era.

First in the new locker rooms
First with the remodeled arena
First in the F'n center
First with no slugs

I'm sooo pumped for this

Branch out into porn that takes you out of your comfort zone, then write an essay about it.

For anyone who can't be at the game tonight or unable to watch from the comforts of your own home, or if you don't have the proper station to view the awesome...

I'll check around to see if there are any others as we get closer to game time! I’m so stoked for this game, I may just mess myself before getting completely stinking shitfaced! :D

Thanks man! :D

Holy crap! How did you score these tix? I'm sure it'll be a blast for sure! Hey, do me a favor... If you happen to get a chance to rub elbows with T-Pegs, tell him that the two biggest Sabres fans outside of Buffalo say, "Hi" and we're hoping to make it down this season! :P

Actually, the gears are starting to turn on the big blue & gold Machine in terms of us heading down that way in December for the Flyers game on the 7th. If this plan takes off, I'm sure everyone will find out  We'll have to round up a crew for some pre game eat and drink!

My brother works for Greatbatch. They have the double suite across the ice from the owner's box. (He initially told me next to, but it's not.)

This past Sunday, I had gotten suite tickets for the Bills game from the company we buy our phone services from. We just re-signed a contract with them, so they hooked me up. I took my brother, then mid-week he told me he got his name pulled for HIS work suite tickets, so he felt obligated to take me. His GF is a little salty, but I'm taking her to a game later in the month to smooth that over. :)

I might actually run into Pegula up there. I saw BTG a couple times walking around, and I'm sure T-Pegs will be more sociable than he was. I have also been told that the Greatbatch suite has been redecorated significantly, and Kim Pegula loves it.

I'll take as many pics as I can. Don't have my good camera with me, just my iPhone, but that'll do I think. :)
