Yeah, I'm a big fan of Butler on the PP. He is a very well balanced defenseman who can shoot and set people up. I cringe when they put Poms back there because he always ends up getting burned.

My thoughts exactly, ETC.

Now I am a big Pommer supporter but it always seems like he is trying to make either a fancy pass, or one too many passes and try to feed the puck through 5 sets of legs to someone's tape. I'd be more for him to play down low and cycle. The man has some size, let him bang around in the corners. He's got some hands to him as well (when he wants to use them) so playing maybe low or slot would be a good fit. Maybe Poms gets our of his rut tomorrow night?

I'm expecting a bigger game out of our D. Back to the system. Crisp, shorter passes and moving the puck up the boards, chipping it in deep and let the forwards win the battles. None of this stretch pass crap. Heck, it worked for 4 games in a row, think they mighta been on to something?

I still think Butler is back there because he gets more shots through and on net than anyone else. I hate the Tim Connolly/Jason Pominville shot into the PKers shins.

I also know that at least once a game Poms will break a stick, and it usually seems to fucking happen while he's at the point.

Or don't forget that EVERY single PP, Pommers will lose offensive zone possession because he can't keep the puck in. GAH!

Butler has some real decent accuracy from the line. Some how, the puck just finds its way to the net! Timmy and Pommer need to watch for the loose pucks and use those million dollar fast hands to cash in on the rebounds. Speaking of shots, I wanna see Myers walk into a shot, get all of it clean and see what kind of power he's got.

I also want to hear RJ say, "AH HA!!! THE BUTLER DID IT!!!" upon yet another Sabres goal tomorrow night! :P

Sounds like he belongs on the PP to me. Let Myers sling rockets at the net.

Have you not seen the duo of Butler and Myer on the point this year?

Those two keep the puck in the zone and the only time it goes by them is if it is thrown down the ice way in the air.

Even in the preseason they were doing that. They are our best PP pairing.

Sky, I was answering a question with a question. I absolutely LOVE their ability to retain offensive zone possession.

We need to keep these two in Buffalo for a long time...

I don't think I meant to quote you. I must have it to respond my bad.

It was directed a Salzig more than anyone else..

My bad Phil.

Butler spent the entire off-season practicing point-shots and working on his powerplay skills - He's been acknowledged by Lindy as being the "go to" guy, for his great vision (currently) and the future of the Sabres' powerplay.

He is being groomed for the "quarterback" position.

I like Butler's ability to keep the puck in the zone. He also has a good shot selection. Too many players on the point try to bomb the thing through, but those sneaky wrist shots can cause so much havoc. When you've got a guy like Vanek in front of the net, you don't need a 110mph cannon from the point. In fact, he's so good at tipping shots, that a wrist shot would probably be preferable.

And while Butler is not the greatest defenseman to play the point on the power play, there really aren't other options on this team. But he may well grow into that responsibility. The guy is mature beyond his years. There may be some growing pains, but I expect Butler to remain on the point this year and in the future.

Ham

Haha, he must have been jumping up and down when Spach left.

I've seen every game of this season so far. (with European Center Ice) I don't share the opinion that Butler is great atn the point, I think he has problems to make a good play under pressure. But as a matter of fact, I just watch the games (and some of them only from the archive) and I don't get that many news and player notes over here. So I asked here why Butler is playing on the PP, which makes no sense for me since we have enough forwards in our roster which are able to jump in.

I could have sworn I heard a Ruff interview where he stated he wanted to get Pommers off the point and use him down low on the PP instead.

and yet, even with our best forward out of the line up, Pommers was at the point the last few games on the PP.
I love Ruff..... but seriously, if your not confident in saying "I want Pommers down low" then don't say you want him down low.
