Hmmm, I just hope Gragnani is solid in his own end, and they don't lack in grit against a team like Anaheim. It's good to have the added PP skills, but if he's not as strong defensively I don't like the trade off. Hopefully he is.

First game of the season. That alone should set a small, but warm, fire under his ass. Hot enough at least to add some grit for today.

From TBN...

"Enroth's highlight reel started when he stopped Mark Letestu from point-blank range with 4:30 left in the first period after a giveaway by Marc-Andre Gragnani, who struggled mightily with the puck all night."

I wanted to post earlier how Gragnani has fumbled the puck around and not looked so impressive on the PP, even before the Pittsburgh game. I have high hopes for him, but if he's not producing on the PP I'd rather see Weber. Maybe next game...

I have noticed that too, I think our defense right now is too offensively minded atm.

Sekera is totally offense, Ehrhoff is so offensively minded hes almost bad playing defense, Gragnani is way offensive too and is struggling at that, Myers has some a defensive upside but is still an offense guy. Regher has been doing great out there and I think adding Weber will do this team real good.

Notice how when Grags doesn't have a guaranteed roster spot, he doesn't do well? He's mentioned that before. If he gets a permanent roster spot he might do better, which is why I wanted them to trade Sekera, but nonetheless I'd rather have Weber. We have enough offense from the defense with Sekera, Myers, Leopold, and Ehrhoff.

It wouldn't even matter if Grags was playing well; I'd still want Weber in there. A defense core with 4 players dedicated to offense doesn't work in the playoffs.

We need size and grit on the back end. Might as well start getting used to it now. Play Weber, sit Grags.

"We know what he provides for us. He's made some great plays on the power play for us. It's the defending that Marc still has to work on. ... No guarantee (he'll play Tuesday)," Ruff said.

Breaking news!! Gragnani has embarrassing photos of Lindy Ruff, Weber to hire Jeff Gillooly...

http://blogs.buffalonews.com/sabres/201 ... gnani.html

Not that big a deal, but I wonder...if getting Regehr was such a big deal, why don't we want another player sort of like him?

It's only a matter of time. A bottom 4 comprised of Leopold, Ehrhoff, Gragnani, and Sekera is wayyy too soft for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

i think there needs to be a trade down the line for some more sandpaper on the blue line. adding weber would help, but id rather have 4 gritty d-men.

I think that need will become apparent as we head down the stretch, and it will be addressed by Darcy at the deadline.

I think it might actually be a good thing to spread some of those games around among the bottom defensemen. Keep things fresh. When the playoffs do roll around, simply insert and healthy and rested Weber and voila!

According to Bill Hoppe, Roy is now playing the point on the powerplay instead of Gragnani at practice. Enter Mike Weber?

Roy on the point? :?
Gragnani out? :D

I know Roy can handle the puck well and can distribute it in tight spaces, but if he gets the shooting lane will he shoot?

Sounds good!! Grags always gives up chances on the PP while on the point. Any idea if or Grags will be sent down? Or can he be sent down without being put on waivers?

This combination on the blue line could be considered as a WMD.

I love it!
