Its my fault guys. I watched the game. It was one of the few Sabres games I can watch a year. Don't have the NHL package. I'll take the blame. ;)

1) TB only plays the trap once they earn the lead. It was Buffalo's lead to lose and they did.
2) Miller WAS hugging the post, and saw the pass to go out front and planned accordingly, was not his fault for moving away from the post expecting the pass out front, i mean, that skate it went off of was on a 10M$ contract....
3) Another goal deflected off of three skates before going in on Miller. Darn 10M$ contract skates.
4) IDK what has gotten into Miller on breakaways, but he's lost his touch on those.

It's a team game, and the team lost. </thread>

You can say it's a team game all you want, but again, Miller had an awful game. Sure. Give him the benefit of the doubt on the one that went off of Ehrhoff's skate, but he still had a bad game. We are allowed to be critical of Miller if he's due to be criticized, and there was plenty to criticize him about last night.

You're right, SATW. It's a team game, but Miller deserves a lot of blame for last night. I won't often say that. Usually I'm always of the "team left him out to dry" opinion, but we simply couldn't get it by the Tampa defense after their first two goals and Miller could have kept us in the game. He didn't. He made soft plays on some pucks that led to goals. He was soft on the Malone breakaway, and didn't even bother challenging the shooter like he normally does.

The average number of goals scored during a regular season NHL game last year was 5.59. The average number of shots taken during a regular season game for the 2010-2011 season was 30.41.

Last night the Sabres took 41 shots and scored three goals. In other words, the Sabres' offense shot enough and scored enough to win the average NHL game. However, one of our goals came with less than a minute left, when we pulled the goalie for an extra attacker, which means that we really scored two goals - not enough to win the average NHL game. So, part of this is on the offense, as well.

Roy really should have scored on one of the two great chances he had in the first four minutes of the game.

Miller's career save percentage is .915 and his career goals against average is 2.56. Last night he allowed 4 goals and had a SV% of .826. By that standard, yes, this one is on Miller's head. Especially since the Lightning took so few shots and the ones that went in were soft.

But wait, there's more. Miller isn't our only defensive player, but simply the last line of defense. The Sabres D blocked a measly 7 shots last night (the Lightning blocked 14). Yes, Miller gave up the rebound that allowed Lecavalier to score the Lightning's first goal, but the Sabres should have had a body on Vinny in front of the net (three Sabres were standing around watching Miller get scored on). As has been noted, on the second Lightning score Miller wasn't hugging the post. However, Leino was out hustled by Thompson behind the net, allowing him to take a shot he should have never been allowed to take. The first two Lightning goals, in my opinion, were given up by both Miller and the defense.

The Stamkos goal from the blue line was all on Miller. The Malone breakaway was all Lightning.

So, what does it all mean? Simple, we lost because they scored more goals than we did.

Another game they lose and people blame miller. It's so annoying. How about blame ruff for not coming up with a better scheme to break the 1-3-1??

Didn't we score 3 goals?

Sounds to me like we did break the 1-3-1.. Just gave up 4 goals also..
