I wasn't taking a snipe. I just happened to recently read that group 6 thread on HFB, so it was fresh in my mind. I think it's an absurdity to assume that group 6 FA status is the only reason MAG is playing right now. I can't imagine that Ruff cares about that one bit.

My Ruff comments were not targeting you specifically. You're not the only one who made a similar comment. I was responding to all of you. I don't think it was unreasonable to give Miller an extra start based on the donut, and I'm not going to crucify Ruff for goaltender management unless we hit late December and Miller is on pace for 74 games again.

That "on pace" statistic STARTS NOW though Tom, you know that!

The premise of the argument that if MAG plays less than 50 more games this year, he'll go group 6 UFA and be able to walk next year, and Ruff is playing him to avoid that outcome.

Does it make sense that Ruff would NOT put his best possible team on the ice every night just to keep rights to their #6 defenseman another 2 years? It strains logic.

In all honesty, I don't even know if the group 6 claims that the original poster on HFB made are correct.

If I were Lindy and this is true then I would probably play him as much as possible now then worry about it later in the season when we might need Weber more. Not saying that's what is happening but it could be a logical explanation.

does it make sense if defender number 6 (Weber) is, oh, for empirical value, rated a 72/100, and MAG is (number 7 dman) ranked a 70/100, in this situation, you'd throw MAG out there? because hell, 50 games is a lot, he's almost as good as the next guy, but the next guy is locked down for the forseeable future. and you know MAG is a guy who will be replacing an older defenseman with the same style.

whether or not the dude who posted the rule on HFboards is full of shit or not is irrelevant. what's relevant is that is entirely plausible that this could be a reasonable explanation for MAG being in.

Lindy Ruff is not making in game personnel decisions based on possible upcoming group 6 status. If he is, he should be fired immediately.

MAG is not a critical piece of this team required to win a championship. Putting an inferior team on the ice to protect a non-critical piece's pending free agency status is crazy.

EDIT: Guess who else will be pending group 6 after their contract is up? Mike Weber. Oh By this backwards logic, the Sabres are :

- Playing Gragnani this year to prevent him from becoming group 6. Then tendering him an offer because he'll still be restricted.
- Next year, sitting Gragnani and playing Weber to prevent him from becoming group 6.

Does that make ANY sense?

edited.

i don't know why you can just stomp your foot and make this call. every time someone has a disagreement you want proof and evidence. you haven't provided anything besides "lindy doesn't do that.".

it's be freaking STUPID to not do that. if it comes down to MAYBE losing a handful of games in the beginning of the season we would have won to keep this guy as an RFA for several years and retain him to better our future.

at the end of a sports season, i'd put my inexperienced kids in over seniors in a situation that didn't matter to better the young kids down the road, because it's better for the team.

i'm not saying lindy's even doing this. i'm saying there's no reason he couldn't be doing it.

I feel like that's something that Regier would be concerned about, not Ruff. Lindy has said he doesn't pay attention to players' contracts (unless they're in a contract year, since it's pretty much impossible to not recognize that) when it comes to playing time and all that.

How true that is, I don't think we'll ever know.

i'm just saying, if you have a guy you think is probably going to play 30-40 games anyways, and needs 50 for some reason like this, and the gap on the depth chart isn't deep, why would you ignore it?

Lindy Ruff doesn't. He doesn't remember Mike Weber either.

After starting Miller in TB when it was a planned Enroth start, Ruff turns around and starts Miller again to start the season on a 7-1 start ratio. Gragnani still hasn't done anything on the PP...

I am actually kind of glad Weber isn't playing. He looked very lost last year quite a bit.

Do you go out of your way to try and provoke me?

I'm providing my opinion on the topic, which specific facts and reasons as to why I've formed that opinion. I'm not just stomping my feet here and ranting.

I've fucking had it. I can't even participate in simple hockey discussions without someone getting 10 ways of butthurt about it. I know I have been a dick in the past, and I've owned that repeatedly. But giving me shit when I'm not?

Fuck that. I have better things to do, and frankly better places I can talk hockey at.

I'm out.

I know what you mean squanto too many people on here just want to create shit and rant like frigging crazy.

I was away from these boards quite a bit over the last few moths for mostly the reasons you have stated. People really need to chill out.

Didn't Nolan Ryan predict Rangers in 6?

personally, one of the drawbacks of this forum is the small number of people posting. people get familiar and with no new blood, old arguments come back to the surface.
