So far this season I think it shows that the sabres lack scoring talent. The most goals they have managed to score in one game so far is 4, which I feel is pretty low. Of course Vanek has proven to be the exception to this statement with his 8 goals so far. I just want to know if I'm the only one who feels this way or if maybe it's Lindy's mysterious system that limits the natural talents of the players.

Vanek, Boyes have both scored 40+ before

Roy, Pommers, Stafford have all scored 30 + before

Adam, Leino, Gerbe certainly have the ability to score 20

I very much believe the talent is there, and it's still early in the season...

Add Ennis and Hecht to the potential 20 goal scorers as well.

The problem isn't the talent at all, it's the execution and the effort. I believe they are top 5 in the league talent wise.

Yeah, and the team has lots of new players at significant positions. Things are still shaking out. They've got good breakout ability. Get Myers and Ehrhoff going offensively and that spurs goal scoring from the back end. Roy hasn't really gotten it going, but we know he's good. Ennis is a wild card. I expect it'll take a bit even after he's back before he gets going, but considering he did about nothing in the early going, how much will that be?

Guys like Gerbe, Gaustad, Kaleta, McCormick and Hecht will plunk in some. Gerbe is another wild card. He plays the type of game that picks up the occasional garbage goal, but he's also got better offensive instincts than a guy like Goose or McCormick, so he could reach 20 this season.

The power play has been moving the puck really well the past few games and generating good chances, just haven't gotten the bounces. When the PP comes around a bit, that'll lead to more offense.

Of course, Vanek and Pommers aren't likely to maintain this pace. Neither will Adam. But they'll still be consistent producers. They have real good chemistry together.

Leino is coming around a bit. That Leino, Roy, Stafford line has looked good for 3 games now. Looks like Leino and Roy are finally picking it up. Stafford has always been more of the beneficiary/sniper on whatever line he plays, and not the guy that's really providing the spark. And now Boyes is looking more like the player they thought they were getting last season. He's not going to hit 40 again, but he could get to 25 this season.

I think they just need to have a little time to work out the kinks and get into synch with each other. The only thing I'm really worried about this season thus far is Miller. I don't think he's in the right place mentally. Also, it's possible Myers and Ehrhoff don't get it going offensively.

I can see Vanek and Pommers maintain their pace. It's not a pace that is OMG Gretzky style.

I'd like to agree. Vanek is on pace for 100 pts, Pominville for 94.

Vanek hasn't taken a game off so far this year, maybe he could get something like 40 goals and 80-90 pts. Pominville could break 80, depends on Vanek.

And if the offense gets going, they could be even more effective. I'd like to see a Sabre get 100 pts :)

This offense is going to gel, and when they do, we're going to be nasty. Give it some time.
