Shanahan is a no-bullshit disciplinarian and the players (and fans) better get used to it. Kaleta is a repeat offender and clearly hasn't gotten it after being in trouble twice prior.

Kaleta got off easy with 4 games, he could have gotten a lot more with video proof of him head butting people multiple times.

No defense for Kaleta, but it pisses me off that Sturm doesn't get even a phone call, and there's nothing said about Vanek's mugging that required stitches or Giroux's hack-a-Roy in the last minute.

Yeah...that is seriously bullshit. I had no idea Giroux was such a dirtbag.

I love the way Shanny does the suspensions, laying out the proof like it has is the best thing the NHL has done in years..

I definitely agree. And Kaleta got what he deserved. It's barbaric.

I think he would have gotten more had he injured Voracek.

I dunno, I have trouble feeling sorry for teams that reap what they sow, whether its Voracek, Savard, etc. It's a dirty play and the kind of thing that needs to be meted out of the game, but as some have said the Flyers did way more and went unpunished. So good on Kaleta for evening up the score a little. Next time do it off camera.

I'm not convinced the NHL wants to actually clean up the game and reduce injuries, instead of merely looking like they're doing so.

I was thinking the same thing as CV. They want to seem like they're cleaning up the game. However, if you'll notice, a lot of the suspensions have been handed out to "repeat offenders." These guys are easy to go after because they have a history. Now, I'm not saying they're innocent, because most of them aren't (Kaleta included). I recall a hit Daniel Carcillo was recently suspended for. I watched it and it looked more like an unfortunate play than a vicious, intentional boarding. However, when players that other teams hate (Carcillo, Kaleta) are suspended, everyone is happy because they're the "bad guys". But, if Giroux had been suspended for trying to destroy Roy's knee with his two hander late in the game, everyone would be up in arms. Why? Because he's one of the Flyers best players. If the NHL was serious about player saftey, Giroux would have at least been fined. I think they're just seeking out questionable/dirty plays made by guys with a reputation and turning a blind eye to the star players.

Another example was the home game against Tampa. Steve Downie left the bench strictly to start a fight with Kaleta for jawing with Brett Connolly. In the pre season, J.F. Jacques got suspended five games, I believe, for the same offense. Pierre McGuire pointed out what Downie did, but actually applauded him. Downie is considered a key player on Tampa's roster. I'm not starting a conspiracy theory. Just calling 'em like I see 'em.

Richards was also not even looked at for the Connolly hit last year yet Myers was evaluated for his "head hit" because in that series he was picking up a reputation for being a dick.
