LOL, playing devil's advocate, are you comparing gay rights to slavery? Following proper legal procedures, a gay couple *can* have all the same rights when it comes to things like decisions to "pull the plug" in a medical scenario, or the recipient of any insurance benefits, etc...

There's no legal procedure to come close to "owning" someone ;)

Mostly in the sense that like slavery, several states have anti-gay laws that the majority of the country opposes. (Granted a lot less of a majority.)

That's my big fear with giving the states too much power, that certain states are going to enact awful laws where the rest of the country is like 'dude...not cool.'

Doesn't matter. There are going to be things that we like that other regions may not. Wouldn't you like the freedom to enact that legislation if it's beneficial to you and your friends, despite what someone thousands of miles away thinks about it?

I would not like any region to be able to wipe their ass with human rights under the guise of state laws and freedom.

That's what the bill of rights is in the constitution for.

That's the way it is now...are you planning on moving to Alabama anytime soon?
No? Niether am I, because the laws in Alabama discourage the things I like and my lifestyle. (Homebrewing, high alcohol beers and a full set of teeth are prohibited for example).

Conversely, you know New York is pretty liberal when it comes to marrying your cousin...so it's got that going for it.

Freedom includes freedom of where to live and to choose which laws you subject yourself to.

Yeesh, imply LGBT-ness and incest gets brought up. Might already be in Alabama with the ignorance being bandied about. Maybe we can make more child molester jokes about gay Politician Fred Karger?

Don't get butt hurt. I see a logical response to your comment, you take offense and immediately discard it as ignorant. That's ignorant.

Are you serious?

First of all, marrying your cousin isn't incest...B: LGBT issues never crossed my mind (but apparently never leave yours), Thirdly:

Ya know, I never know how you really intend these pictures to be taken, but I find them really obnoxious, and pretty condescending. I kind of doubt you're trying to be that though. Maybe it's just me.

I laughed. Yeah, they're done in a kind of mean way, but when people are ignorant to your point or care so much about beating their chest for one agenda, it can be frustrating.

I have a friend who only pushes a gay rights agenda. I am socially very liberal, what used to be conservative, and could care less what people do with their social agendas for the most part. But the lengths to which they would vote someone into office or support someone simply because they are gay rights advocates is truely alarming. This person would vote for Joseph Stalin if he said he would give gays the right to marry nationwide. Mind you Stalin killed more people then Mr. Hitler.

We're not attacking him - if he gets offended and doesn't want to continue the conversation, we'll stop.

There was nothing at all in this discussion about LGBT issues until it was wrongfully implied I was was being "ignorant".

I'm a fan of standing up for myself.
I'm also a fan of being humorous (sometimes with stupid pictures).

to clear things up, we were talking about states rights.
I used the example of marrying your cousin because it's, in fact, an excellent example of something you can do in some states and not others.
I am making no references to gay marriage or anything of the nature.

If you ever visit in Baltimore for a weekend let me know. I will see if I can wrangle together some friends and show you some fun areas. If you ever want some good area info for the midatlantic just PM me. Cap's Sabres game is a must.
