Meh, I think some people got too butthurt by the things he said. He just wanted to have conversations about hockey like the rest of us, but was always called out on the mod card. It was pretty shitty if you ask me.

agreed, tom was just a strongly versed person that made it sound like he was calling you stupid at times. that was my beef with him. him and i kinda hashed it out via PM and i never had a problem with him again. when i felt things could get ugly, i simply walked away from it, because it wasnt necessary. i hope no one feels i was bad mouthing him, and if tom himself reads this, i hope he knows that.

Yeah. I never really felt like he used the "mod card" for anything, actually. No "punishments" were ever dealt for disagreeing with him.

If any more people leave the island, it won't be long before our in-bred genetics return to the sea. No idea what happened, and 100% sure I don't need to know to survive. Bottom line is there's not much Sabre discussion, and that's a shame. We had a good thing at one time. Thanx for what you did here Squanto, and I hope you return. At least as just a poster.

No a lot of people would be like, "Wow you're a mod you shouldn't be allowed to say that!" whenever there would be a debate of some sort. Pretty dumb.

I agree. I don't really view the moderators as moderators, but rather as contributors. All moderating is done behind the scenes where I don't see it. I like it that way. I don't put the mods above me and hold them to different standards. Every time Squanto disagreed with someone, he was called out for being a mod who didn't like the person. We all think we're right, that's why we go back and forth all the time. Tom was no exception.

while i have nothing against tom. there were times where his responses to people made him seem like an asshole like straight up insulting people with next to near provocation or making it seem, at least to me, that when he said something it was always 100% right and anyone who objected to it was a dumbass.

Yeah, those posts definitely existed from him, you can't deny that... probably with a bit more regularity than from others

Well, I'm definitely one who called him out as a mod. I'm sure I'm the main poster that BTSU and Fly are thinking of. Thing is though, 90% of my problems with him was what he said or how he said it, and the last 10% of aggravation was the fact that he was also a mod. A mod can by all means contribute, but the nature of that position is (or should be IMO) a mediator or de-escalator. I never saw that from him, aside from telling people to shut it, but he certainly escalated things sometimes. I would've had issues with him even if he wasn't a mod. I tried the PM route like Irony a few times, and that always ended very badly, which only made things worse. I got absolutely ZERO results every time I tried to smooth it over thay way.

I have to abide by the whole "higher standard" thing every day of my life, as unfair as it is at times. It doesn't seem to be a hard thing to manage on a website, as opposed to dealing with anyone in public every single day and all the personal decisions I have to make. So that's the mind set I'm coming from when I brought that up to him. But all that aside, I just thought he came off the wrong way quite often, and his mod status was mostly beside the point.

Ehh, in the last thread you called him out on, I don't think he was trying to put you down as it seemed, it was just the premise of Gragnani playing over Weber because of the RFA stuff. I can understand that old problems from before can make his posts seem more hostile than you would think. As a third party, I didn't think he was attacking you in the thread at all.

But you're entitled to how you feel, I just took it a different way, is all.

We should be able to draw him out by saying something totally incorrect in the Sabres section.

Usually saying Enroth is better than Miller or something along those lines will draw him out from where he is hiding.

But I hardly called him out after he said he "knew where I got that" (like he caught me spewing HockeyBuzz drivel or something), and what I posted was "hilarious". I basically said "fine, snipe away", and never responded again. I knew there was no chance of having a conversation/debate without things going south, and that's exactly how it played out with Pat.
