Not a chance, and that's why it had to be dealt with on the ice...oh wait.

Yeah I saw that. It looked like he said some really mean things to Lucic.

Lucic's response after the game....

https://twitter.com/#!/naokofunayama/status/135553614251954176

Lucic was surprised there wasn't response after his hit on Miller. Says if roles were reversed, Bruins would've responded differently.

No shit...that almost goes without saying. Can you imagine if that was Kaleta on Thomas. The game wouldn't have been over until midnight. I can see how not much happened immediately with the Vanek line and Sekera out there, but Myers could've done something more. Either way the rest of the team should've done something more, but I can only guess...it seems ever since the "run 'em" Ottawa game, that Ruff has put a lid on that stuff forever.

During the 2nd intermission Gerbe basically said what Lindy told them in the locker room. They need to allow the officials to handle it and they just need to play hockey.

I guess Milbury is good with the Lucic hit. According to him, goalies are free game when they play the puck.

That is true. It's just an unwritten rule that you don't hit a goaltender.

I do agree with it, though. Goaltenders are pretty defenseless against hits.

the equipment is designed to stop pucks, not cushion you from body checks. i mean, shit, your pads prevent you from agile skating.

paragraph four of Rule 42: Charging

Quote:
A goalkeeper is not “fair game” just because he is outside the goal crease area. The appropriate penalty should be assessed in every case where an opposing player makes unnecessary contact with a goalkeeper. However, incidental contact, at the discretion of the Referee, will be permitted when the goalkeeper is in the act of playing the puck outside his goal crease provided the attacking player has made a reasonable effort to avoid such contact.

this isn't directly to you, but your statement is the one i want to address.

i think goalies are fair game when they play the puck and they should be. just like quarterbacks shouldn't be able to slide if they run the ball.

True, they should be but skating full speed into them, anyone is wrong. Milbury is wrong with his thoughts on the hit. It definitely was charging and I personally think you could make an argument that he had an intent to injure. Obviously the officials felt differently.

A running back or a Wide receiver has every right to slide and some do, ever watch Randy Moss or Chad Johnson when guys start closing in on them?

A running back is different, I've never seen one slide or drop to the ground.

It really sucks that pretty much everyone on our team would get their ass kicked by Lucic in a fight, only McCormick would stand a chance.

It's actually written in the rulebook that goalies aren't fair game.

A Major penalty and a Game Misconduct penalty shall be assessed any player who charges a goaltender while the goaltender is within his crease or who injures an opponent as a result of a charge.

Note: A goaltender is not “fair game” just because he is outside the goal crease area. A penalty for interference (Minor or, at the discretion of the Referee, a Major penalty and a Game Misconduct penalty) or charging (Minor or, at the discretion of the Referee, a Major penalty and a Game Misconduct penalty) shall be called where an opposing player makes unnecessary contact with a goaltender. Likewise, Referees should be alert to penalize goaltenders for tripping, slashing, or spearing in the vicinity of the goal.” (Hockey Referee’s Case Book/Rule Combination, 2001, pg. 141).

I disagree with this.

A goalie's equipment makes them vulnerable. It's also not designed to protect themselves for huge hits and it's easy for a goalie to be thrown off balance because of all the pounds of equipment they are wearing.

I guess people can make the argument that they shouldn't leave their crease then...but their job is to prevent the puck from getting in the net. And leaving the crease to play the puck and prevent the opposing team from gaining posession is a large part of their job.

Incidental contact is always going to happen, it's hockey. But a player deliberately charging or hitting a goalie shouldn't be allowed because it's a lot more dangerous for the goalie than it is for a skater.
