To me, this all goes to show just how difficult it is to deal with people. I'm not just talking about Squanto here. That list Monty posted of all the mods we've gone through in the past four or five years is pretty telling. Seems like a thankless (not to mention of course payless) job that can turn a person's personality from a fine wine into vinegar.

It's sad that it's happened though, especially when you consider most of these hard feelings have been generated over hockey (yes, I know politics here is a matter of controversy, but seems like most of the major splits haven't been political). As much as I love it, it's just a game. It's not even something vital like food, or medicine or music or sex. When we all can't even get along with other fans of our favorite team, and divide ourselves over a freakin game (where we're all rooting for the same team for God's sake!), it doesn't give me much hope about the ability of people to come together and deal with matters of much more import.

People are assholes and stubborn.

Stu, actually the only difference of opinion I can remember having with Squanto over hockey was when I said Buffalo was getting shafted with back-to-backs, and that was two years ago. About everything else has stemmed from the politics board. I posted some topics, sometimes tongue-in-cheek, that Squanto couldn't disagree with without being pretty cranky about. Calm disagreement/debate, at least with me, was never used. Maybe because I can/will debate to the hilt Squanto got aggravated with that...IDK. I can be on opposite ends of the spectrum with some people and still have a nice conversation. I manage to do that all the time face to face. Useful fictions is a good example of a poster here that I've had good discussions with despite differing outlooks.

Well, it is apparent that he will certainly be missed since this thread has been going on for three pages.

The thing that brought out Squanto from everyone else is that he would handle trolls in his own personal way. There will _ALWAYS_ be people who go out of their way to find out which buttons to press and mash them like it's their job. Instead of pushing the CoC on them he'd let things slide, and I think thats highly respectable. The amount of things every mod here has let slide is enormous, and we've kept it that way because we want this place to seem open as much as possible. We aren't doing this for ourselves, we're doing it for you, making this a fun place to hang out.

Modding is quite challenging because it requires calling out the trolls and weeding out the people that annoy the posters the most. There's really no need for any thread in this place other than about the Sabres and the NHL and those other forums have bled out the animosity amongst ourselves and it's escalated into the whole board.

There is a CoC in here for a reason, and if you feel there are any people overstepping the bounds set forth there, then you _NEED_ to use the report post options. Mods aren't mind readers and we can't tell whats going on in your head nor monitor EVERYTHING that goes on in these forums.

Remember: This place is what YOU make of it. All the mods do is enforce the rules that _you_ made for this place.

that's not exactly unfair. i was the last person to have a discussion with him. kinda sucks. i never really have had any problems with him that mattered, he seemed to take everyone that argued with him as a personal offense against his standard of living.
