The Sabres' top prospect appears set to make his NHL debut.

Zack Kassian, Buffalo's first-round pick in the 2009 draft, has been summoned from Rochester to play for the injury-plagued Sabres, according to the Twitter accounts of Kassian's friends and teammates.

"Congrats to my best friend zack kassian on getting the call up with the Buffalo Sabres!#lighterup!!" wrote Daniel Maggio, a junior player who lives in Kassian's hometown of Windsor, Ont.

Neither the Sabres nor Amerks have announced a transaction.

Kassian leads the Amerks with seven goals and 14 points in 18 games. An ankle injury to right wing Brad Boyes suffered during Wednesday's 4-3 loss to Boston coupled with a lower-body injury that kept right wing Patrick Kaleta out of practice today created the need for a forward.

Can't say I'm a huge fan of this. I'd rather the kid stayed down and learned the pro game a little more. We don't gain anything by rushing him into the NHL.

Kassian will want to stay. So he will play hard. I hope it helps. These guys need a boost.

This is awesome news... Can't really say we are rushing the guy, he may just be ready. He is a injury call up so it'll be good for him to get a few NHL games under his belt. And if he impresses maybe Sabres keep him up longer. Plus he's a big rugged body add that to his style (lucic style) both something we need on this team.

Let's go Kassian!!!!!

I know this was from injuries but why didnt they do this on Wedneday night against Boston?? Kassian is sort of like Lucic type forward, at least that what I saw from his time in Windsor and Peterborough.

Kassian has remained on the down-low in Rochester. He's been in only one fight (out of necessity because Foligno started a line brawl) and he isn't going out of his way to make the big hit. He's showing up on the score sheet, though, with 14 points in 18 games.

I don't think he's going to be that make-or-break physical presence the Sabres have been lacking.

Excited to see what Kassian can bring to the table. We need something, anything, to get us going again.

It'll be interesting to see what the kid has right now but not expecting much.

"Knowing the criteria, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to guess who among the Buffalo Sabres is considered the honey badger. That would be 5-5 Nathan Gerbe(notes), who is fearless when taking on larger NHL players (i.e. all of them)."

I dare you to tell Gerbe he is not the honey badger. He would tear your ass up. Kassian is more of a mountain lion.

gerbes a tough guy, but hes not a honey badger. hes just an annoying pest. hes not gonna kill anyone or get in many fights. kassian is a bruiser, and to me that embodies a badger more. gerbes fearless, ill give him that,

Gerbe's the honey badger.

Kassian's the sabre cat with a rocket attached to his back.

The honey badger pesters the fuck out of the opposition, taking up all of his attention. While the badger goes apeshit on the prey the sabre cat leaps in full bore and unleashes the rocket arsenal located on his back. This leaves a bloody mess on the ice and strikes fear into all those who wish to fuck with the herd.

The bear(goose) watches over his energetic/ruthless understudies and if anyone fucks with his youngapprentices he unleashes fists of fury(imagine bear from The Edge with Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin)
