I didn't even know they could do this. This is against the fourth amendment, isn't it?

This is a part of the national defense authorization act 2012. Yes the senate voted to pass the bill but it needs to be ratified by the house of representatives first. On the other hand this article pretty much sums up what it can do in the first paragraph.

http://www.businessinsider.com/ron-paul ... ng-2011-12

If this is the case, and civilians start getting arrested for "suspected" terrorism, you can bet protesters will be among the firs to get arrested. Also basically the Bill of Rights is flushed down the toilet and doesnt exist anymore if this gets signed into law.

It's just pretty much taking our democracy, our freedom, and our whole nation and making it "do as we say or get locked up for life". If this bill comes to law the U.S is no better than Afghanistan.

Really, if the president of the US is allowed to label people as 'terrorists' and take away their rights, then we're no better than afghanistan? Wow, afghanistan is a lot better off than I thought!

Read somewhere that Obama was considering vetoing this bill. I certainly hope he does if it gets through congress.

Yes, you can get heart disease in oozbeckhamstans.

Anywho, this legislation is so blindly retarded, I won't even bother stating why. Will we be asking questions like, "Did they ever release those Japs from back in 1940?"?? Or will asking about their release be considered an act of terror, too? I'd rather be a victim than a slave. Period.

What I don't understand why they are concerned about imprisoning American Citizens for life. A suspected terrorist can get life in jail with no trial, but a mass murderer can get less WITH a trail. WTF?!

The last president to refuse an expansion of his own power was George Washington.
I wouldn't hold your breath.

That said, how will this look being passed by a Democratic Senate if it goes down in a Republican House?
We're through the rabbit hole on national "security".

Well this provision was inserted by both parties: Senators Carl Levin, Democrat of Michigan, and John McCain, Republican of Arizona. Good old Johnny.

doesn't matter...if it passes the senate it was passed by Democrats.
If it passes the house it was passed by Republicans.

If it gets wide bipartisan support it's time to start stockpiling ammo.

It is interesting that the OP focuses on President Obama as the threat, even though he is threatening to veto the bill (albeit, not because of the offending provision discussed here).

i wanted to bump this because obama removed the part of the bill where the US can detain someone without giving them a trial. so yeah, all the worry for nothing.

you mean barack HUSSEIN obama, the secret socialist muslim, who was born in kenya, and is working day and night to undermine the very essence of american life at his secret muslim puppetmasters wishes?

You must be wrong.
