Lol, im debating buying a remington r25 for the same purpose, but with a much smaller (most likely hybrid tactical) scope.

Yeah dude, the scope is actually a little big for the gun, but was such a great deal I couldn't pass it up.

I don't mind a scope that big on a single shot rifle; on a semi-auto though, and esp. the R-25, the "typical" scope is a bit big for me.

^^This.

To disarm a populace is to say you do not trust the very people who voted you in office.

An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life.

Because guns are like the internet to rednecks. It's a similar point and click interface, you can spend hours doing it, and it's a great way to relieve stress...in other words, if guns had porn on them, they'd be the ideal hobby...

http://news.yahoo.com/okla-woman-shoots ... 06413.html

A young Oklahoma mother shot and killed an intruder to protect her 3-month-old baby on New Year's Eve, less than a week after the baby's father died of cancer.
Sarah McKinley says that a week earlier a man named Justin Martin dropped by on the day of her husband's funeral, claiming that he was a neighbor who wanted to say hello. The 18-year-old Oklahoma City area woman did not let him into her home that day.
On New Year's Eve Martin returned with another man, Dustin Stewart, and this time was armed with a 12-inch hunting knife. The two soon began trying to break into McKinley's home.
As one of the men was going from door to door outside her home trying to gain entry, McKinley called 911 and grabbed her 12-gauge shotgun.
McKinley told ABC News Oklahoma City affiliate KOCO that she quickly got her 12 gauge, went into her bedroom and got a pistol, put the bottle in the baby's mouth and called 911.
"I've got two guns in my hand -- is it okay to shoot him if he comes in this door?" the young mother asked the 911 dispatcher. "I'm here by myself with my infant baby, can I please get a dispatcher out here immediately?"
The 911 dispatcher confirmed with McKinley that the doors to her home were locked as she asked again if it was okay to shoot the intruder if he were to come through her door.
"I can't tell you that you can do that but you do what you have to do to protect your baby," the dispatcher told her. McKinley was on the phone with 911 for a total of 21 minutes.
When Martin kicked in the door and came after her with the knife, the teen mom shot and killed the 24-year-old. Police are calling the shooting justified.
"You're allowed to shoot an unauthorized person that is in your home. The law provides you the remedy, and sanctions the use of deadly force," Det. Dan Huff of the Blanchard police said.
Stewart soon turned himself in to police.
McKinley said that she was at home alone with her newborn that night because her husband just died of cancer on Christmas Day.
"I wouldn't have done it, but it was my son," McKinley told ABC News Oklahoma City affiliate KOCO. "It's not an easy decision to make, but it was either going to be him or my son. And it wasn't going to be my son. There's nothing more dangerous than a woman with a child."

While that's a nice little story, and things like that do occasionally happen, the truth is that putting guns in a home statistically makes that home much less safe. A home with a gun has a much, much higher chance of having a domestic violence situation turn deadly. Also the sad truth is that more children die in accidents with guns or get into situations where they shot a friend or relative than get saved in situations like the one in the previous post. It's your right to own a gun, but don't delude yourself that it makes you safer.

I agree stu, because I almost discharged a weapon when I was younger, but I wouldn't want to be at the mercy of home invaders either. Tough call. I got burglarized once, and the cop told me a story about a farmer who pulled a gun on kids in his barn to detain them. He told me a gun is the best thing you can have. I'm going to have to agree with him. To me, not having a weapon to protect myself is like allowing myself to be raped. It would make me feel very vulnerable.

Statistically, people are morons.

Guns aren't something I take for granted, they aren't something I leave laying around. I'm even anal about muzzle awareness and safety control with a BB gun (my gf thought I was overreacting, I thought she had shitty habits, and she can fuck off if she thinks I'll relax).

I'm very glad we have the second amendment. And to me it does make us safer, but then again guns are dangerous if not in the right place or in the right person's hand.

Guns don't kill people, it's the person using it.

What really perturbs me is that the whole "no guns allowed" stickers at banks and specific merchants actually does very little to dissuade crime. As a matter of fact, I think it makes them more likely targets.

Where would you rather rob, a store that you know most law-abiding people won't carry a gun into because they have a sign that says no, or a store that doesn't have a sign?

Guns don't kill people, it's the person using it.

But if the person using it had a stick instead, they probably wouldn't be killing people would they? That phrase is so tired and cliche.

Everyone always says that about "other people" not being safe with guns, never themselves. Guess what people, accidents happen even to normally safe people. I suppose car accidents only happen to other people too right? I am a great driver, but I've been in two accidents at the wheel. How about the rest of you? Have you been in accidents? Does that mean you're a bad driver? Hate to break it to you, but if a safe driver can get in an accident, then a safe gun-handler can also have an accident.

Don't have to worry about that, right now it's just a range rifle. I only use shotgun during deer season, and have a .45 mag in my bedroom. This gun stays under lock and key, with a gun lock. Last thing I want to do is discharge this thing indoors and take out a neighbor 3 blocks away.

It's just a fun high powered range gun to work on my shooting at 250+ yards.

I have buddies that hunt deer with an AR-15, and I'm like...why?

I enjoy shooting for the sport of it, I'm not that yahoo out in the woods blasting off rounds at deer, and not hitting anything but air...honestly those guys scare me more than gangs. lol.

I can hit a person sized target with open sights at 500 yards with an AR quite consistently (at least 8/10 shots)...I too like rifles for the marksmanship more than hunting, though I will use it for coyote at my family's cabin.
