are you really telling me that for sabres fans in wny there is no way to watch the game via cable?

Yeah and it's worse than that if I understand correctly, even if a person in WNY with TWC *paid* for center ice, the MSG feeds would still be blacked out for the normal reasons.

effed up.

/...and I understand we're an "enthusiastic" bunch in Buffalo but TWC is pissing off Rangers, Nicks fans etc.

Correct - outside of the local area, Center Ice provides the MSG feed through "In-Demand." But Center Ice blacks out all local broadcasts, which are provided instead directly through the cable/satellite company on a separate channel. In Tampa, I get all Sabres games via Center Ice with MSG feed, but all Lightning games are directly on the Sun Sports station.

The down-side of Center Ice is that only 1 game (at least on Fios in Tampa) per day is broadcast in HD (usually Bruins, Caps, Penguins), all the rest are terrible (worse than average) quality standard def. I never get MSG-fed Sabres games in HD with Center Ice, even though MSG broadcasts Sabres games in HD. That's what really irritates me. I'm questioning if Center Ice is worth the money, given the lack of HD broadcasts.

It's not Center Ice who isn't giving you the HD feeds, it's the cable company. The reason I switched from shitty TWC to Direct tv is because Direct tv usually has both teams HD and SD feed for all games. Why the fuck should I have given TWC the same amount of cash for Center Ice when they were only giving me 1/10th the product Direct tv was. I watch just about any game any night with either teams announcers in HD now. Direct tv is in SO MANY WAYS superior to cable. It's like they can't shake the trailer park mentality they have. I think it's why they are giving away so much in promotions right now, because once you switch, you'll NEVER go back to cable. NEVER!

That's really interesting, I had no idea that DTV provided all the HD feeds for all the games. So, are the cable companies (or verizon) paying less for the SD feeds from the network, but charging us the same price for the Center Ice package?

Yes. This is the initial reason I dropped cable. I'm not a big fan of being ripped off.

Die Hard: I had DirectTV and had Center Ice...it was great but I got dicked when I wanted a DVR so I switched to Dish. Center Ice is the same price with them and you get the shittiest coverage ever. Standard def is usually it when it comes to Buffalo and it was always the other teams announcers. I complained and went on a huge journey of first being told the games weren't being recorded in HD  then that the NHL wasn't giving them the feeds....i mean it was awful. I jumped ship as soon as I could and went back to DirectTV. Same price and a million times the coverage. When it comes to hockey Direct really is the best. Their customer service blows and they have issues but their Center Ice package is the best.

Still hasn't fully clicked in. I was going to watch it, then pop downtown to watch a friend's band play. Guess I'll be making a stop somewhere else along the way... :|
