Indeed. I mean, it's better that she's gone, because she was in pain, but it's still sad. :(

So I'm unemployed now.

I was raised right, taught to tell the truth and all. I guess when you do that bad things happen. It's better to lie about stuff because one little mistake and you get fired for it.

It's not like I stole, killed, or raped anyone there. They got rid of one of their best employees that actually knew about the stuff they were selling.

Sorry to hear that. That can be really frustrating, especially since it's going to be tough to find another job in the retail sector since all the stores are downsizing after the holidays.

I suggest if you don't want to go into fast food (I'm pretty sure you don't because of your Taco Bell experience), you may want to try a full service restaurant. I had gotten laid off from Brookstone in February which I thought for sure I wouldn't find a job at that point in the year. I got hired fairly quickly at Red Lobster and I was only unemployed for a week or two.

I don't know if it's like this for your area, but I know in my area movie theaters are ALWAYS hiring. They have such a fast turnover that they always need more employees. Now the job sucks ass, but it's not usually too hard, and you at least get to see movies for free.

Thanks guys. I hope to get a part time job at one of the hospitals since I know someone who works there, but I'm not counting on anything.

And if you want to know, I got fired for buying an 80 dollar set of headphones, which were half off for employees, for an ineligible person. So I used my employee discount the wrong way and got fired for it.

I know it's breaking a policy they have, but getting fired for that to me is bullshit, couldn't you just take the discount away.

Oh well, if Best Buy is going to fire one of the better employees at the tore I worked for for that. Then they aren't worth the time to shop there or even care for their employees.

so you bought the headphones yourself then gave them to the person after the fact?

or

the person bought them and you rang them up with the employee discount?

He gave me the money for them, I bought them with my discount. Then I gave them to him at a later place.

I should have lied about it. But what's done is done now.

i dont see what best buys issue is then. if the person bought it themselves and you rang them up and gave the discount then thats a problem but if they never came in the store then best buys dumb.

Well, if it's written in the employee handbook that you aren't supposed to that, it doesn't entirely surprise me. I mean, I think it would have been better for them to just say, hey you're not supposed to do that, don't do it again, rather than just firing you. But if there are rules in any agreement that you signed stating that you can't use your employee discount for other people, then they're technically within their rights to fire you.

Inappropriate use of your discount can actually be considered theft and they could have pressed charges and/or forced you to repay the discounted amount if they wanted to.

It's a substance over form type of thing. In essence, above all else, you gave your friend your employee discount. He gave you his money to make a purchase on his behalf so you would get him the discount.

Sorry, but I side with Best Buy on this one. It may have been a bit extreme to fire you, as I believe there could have been other things they could have done instead, but they were well within their right.

How did they find out? Did they just ask you about it, or did you tell a co-worker you were doing it and they reported you?

I know, I actually did have to repay the amount on that.

I'm not saying they were in the wrong of firing me at all, I just figured they'd take the discount away since that was also written into the policy of repercussions.

It was a great employee making a bad decision.

Mel, the manager that night asked me about the headunit I was buying. I said it wasn't for me. I should have been like just kidding it's for my car, because at that point they have no proof then and it would have been a he said this but it's not in writing thing.

But, I was raised to tell the truth by my parents. I did, and since corporate America is full of liars, they win out. Lose a great employee who did work.

just an observation but you keep referring to yourself as a "great employee" as often as you can.

You said earlier it was headphones, now it's a head unit for a car. Which is it?

Also, did they give you unlimited purchases with your employee discount, or only a certain number of purchases per year?

I have a date Thursday night with a girl I met over break...who wants to take the over under of 2 weeks before she decides she doesn't want to go out on more dates with me...I'm taking the optimistic over, but figure with my yo-yo of a love life, I'd atleast start taking some action on it. Lol.

Seriously, this is a good thing, but she's young, only 20, turning 21 in about a month. So who knows...there is a 5 year and 1 month age difference. I think we both probably want different things...well I know what I want, but no clue what she does.
