the realism lies somewhere in the middle. do i like fracking? hell no. but it's easy to see the economic boom that results from the well digging. you should see the areas i am in where fracking has gotten big. you're talking serious backwoods of appalachian america with money now. in NE PA, the economy has exploded. average rent there 10 years ago was around 300. now it's about 600+.

it's a tough, tough situation. and even though i am clearly on the do-not-frack side of the fence, there is so much to it and i see what it can do. not to mention we ABSOLUTELY need some form of gas supply for the next 30 years. but we also need to realize that we HAVE to branch out to avoid further environmental disasters.

Darcy and Lindy might actually live in the real world. They protect each other by not throwing each other under the bus at any point, and actually talking about each other in glowing terms. I think they're smart enough to realize that they're stronger as a tandem here.

The Ownership and fans who buy in to Darcy and Lindy as being close to achieving something here are the one's that are living in a dream world.

And I find great amusement in people who accuse Lindy and Darcy detractors as being "Band Wagon Fans" Most of us have voiced our displeasure with them for years now. Were we Band Wagon, we would be supporting them now.

Things take time, and Pegula not firing Lindy and Darcy mid season shouldn't make him seem like an asshole.

its not unreasonable to expect one of the two (coach) to be fired mid season though.

Has a GM ever been fired midseason before?

Punch Imlach was fired by The Sabres along with Coach Marcel Pronovost in December of 1978. I remember this because I played hockey with Marcel's son that year.

Gerry Meehan was fired/stepped down in favor of John Muckler in I believe 1994; though I may be off on that a bit...

So that's two in Buffalo.

There have been others; but it's too late for me to come up with them... John Ferguson Sr. and Emille Francis, I'd have to look it up, or get some sleep..

Ferguson was fired in June from the Rangers, so not midseason.

I haven't seen a GM fired midseason since the lockout. Seems like most of them have been fired after the season is over.

Meehan resigned, so not fired.

I read about Punch's departure. He promised sweeping changes to the roster the year he was fired, which didn't come, and they started out badly.

The Sabres season is basically over. Even if they go on some miraculous run, they will be spent in the first round. The issue I have with this interview is how much of a bullshitter he tries to be. I think everyone in the fucking Buffalo knows that the season is toast but he is trying to fill us with feel good bullshit. I don't know about you but I really getting sick of this "tag line" being spewed.

Quote:
"We’re close enough, but we’ve got to convert some of these chances into goals and those goals into wins," he said. "I still go back to if we can get to where we’re finishing better, getting more scoring, getting secondary scoring, that will go a long ways to helping us."

Every player from the AHL'ers to Lindy has said this over and over and over again. He really needs to come up with his own bullshit instead of stealing everyone else.

He is doing what he does best, wait till the trade deadline. Sadly, it will be too little too late for Darcy. He will do his best to find a trade but the Sabres will be too far out of it by then. He might as well just trade away certain players for draft picks at that point.

Firing a coach mid-season can go either way but what the hell do we have to lose at this point????? The team is in a free fall to the bottom of the east. They're getting beat by teams ahead of them and teams behind them. At least if they fire Lindy then at least we can say they did something, anything. Yes, Lindy has been a coach for this team for 15 years..... Deserve more respect, for what???? Winning at least one Stanley Cup, oh wait, he hasn't done that. Everyone talks about how this team needs to finish better, matter of fact that is in Darcy's interview above. How about he coach, how about him finishing. You know, winning it all..... Well Lindy hasn't "finished" a season yet. People need to get off this whole 15 years thing because, quite honestly, it embarrassing.

The only thing more annoying than the Sabres is the fire Darcy&Ruff whining. It's getting ridicolous. Midseason change won't change anything. I'd prefer a clean cut in the offseason but if it stops the crying please do it now. Message boards are pretty much unreadable right now, same posts over and over again

Same with the trade Roy/Stafford talk. Of course they suck, but they have zero trade value right now. Trading Roy for a 2nd rounder won't change anything and you won't get much more for a hurt player who hasn't played well since a major knee injury.
Darcy is fucked right now. If he trades core guys for their current value people will say bad trade. If he doesn't do anything he's fucked too.

True, it's a waste to fire anyone at this point. The season is shot IMO. I was starting to lay off the whole fire Lindy thing until people started to mention firing coaches mid season. It's not unheard of and has happened several times. I've actually started to accept the fact that we will be keeping the core and coaching staff for the rest of the season. Honestly, no Sabres fan would complain about a bad trade at this point. The only ones who would be complaining about a bad trade would be the fans of the teams we trade with....LOL

I'm fed up with this core too, but I'd actually prefer to wait till someone starts to produce. Maybe Stafford goes on a scoring streak before the deadline and increases his value.

The guy I'd want to trade most is Miller. I'm pretty fed up with his play and I doubt he will come back to his elite self. I have a hard time to find sympathy for him while listening to his interviews when he plays poorly. E.g. Bryzgalov is a weird dude and played like shit this year but he actually tells like it is in interviews and calls himself out.

I think Miller has still some value because of his past and might aquire a younger goalie + pick/prospect.

Interesting point of view. I haven't thought of trading Miller and I was willing to give him one summer to do some sole searching. His numbers have steadily dropped since the Olympic season and is not an "elite" goalie IMO. This season may be his breaking point. I am hoping against all hope that he comes back with a vengeance next season. I know I'm most likely setting myself up for disappointment.
The way Darcy loves to hold onto players, I really can't see him parting ways with Miller for a few more seasons. As with all the core players, Darcy will be give Miller several years to try and reproduce his miracle season.

Gotta love these Darcy bashing threads.

Of course, we all conveniently forget that a few months ago, he was the toast of the town for aggressively signing free agents like Regehr, Ehrhoff, and Leino (not to mention locking up Myers long term) - players that almost everyone on these boards felt good about. Now that those new guys are failing to make a difference, everyone's jumping on the "fire Darcy" bandwagon because the "core guys" like Miller, Roy, and Staff are now playing like horseshit and should have been traded months ago, but were not, because Darcy is too fond of his players. Well, if memory serves, Miller won a Vezina not too long ago, Staff had a career year last year and was looking like a bonafide power forward, and Roy was lighting it up at a point/game until his injury last season. Yeah, a no brainer to get rid of those guys during the off season.

TG gave Darcy a free hand to improve this team, and he went balls-out by signing 3 very good players, and putting an already playoff capable team in the position to succeed and contend, pissing off other NHL owners, GMs, and fans in the process because of the tactics he was using with these long term deals. And everyone loved him for that. And now that they are underachieving, you blame the GM and want him to blow up the team and get canned himself.

Raise your hand if 4 months ago, you thought Darcy was doing a crap job and that this team would be in 11th place in January.

I don't understand the hate on Darcy and Pegula. I heard after the game yesterday on the radio (because Time Warner Cable pisses me off and I have to go 1960's with a fucking radio) Darcy is looking for a deal, and Roy's name was involved. Darcy is doing things, but a few fans believe somehow our teams iperformance has something to do with Darcy, even though he supplied the correct tools. It's either a coaching problem, or our core players just gave up.

The problem with Darcy is he hasn't made the right moves and he's overspent on his own players that have developed see Gaustad, Stafford and Hecht. He didn't address the Center issue we had during the draft or offseason at all. I know Richards was the big free agent but he didn't make any effort to get the guy instead they sign Leino to an outrageous contract that no team will want if you need to unload the guy. He's going to end up like Wade Redden. Ehrhoff had inflated stats playing with the Sedins and Kesler. He wasn't what the team needed. The only deal that he did good on during the offseason with the Regher and the 2nd rounder for Butler and Byron at least that deal makes sense. Regher has been Buffalo's best defenseman in my opinion he's been steady and one of the sabres best hitters. I just think him and Ruff have been here way too long and now with Burke in the division you need an aggresive GM who can make moves and not be afraid if we won the deal. I said awhile ago the Burke would do whatever it takes to make the leafs better and the proof is in the pudding. If Pegula wants to win multiple Stanley Cups you needs a GM that has balls and players with skill, talent and for fucks sake have a heart.

1. Leino WAS the center issue addressed. There were NO OTHER CENTERS available, other than Joel Ward and Jason Arnott. If you say they were the better option, please, see a doctor.

2. Richards was TRADED.

3. Ehrhoff is doing fine. He was a good pickup at a good contract price.

4. Dear Jesus, if you're going to sign up to these boards for the soul purpose of bashing Darcy, please, make sense and do research.

Center issue could have been addressed anytime during the draft or during free agency. Plus free agency really isn't the time to go after a #1 center anyways as you will grossly overpay for someone. He could have traded for a Center. Leino benefited by playing with Briere and Hartnell .

I'm sorry but Regier is to in love with his players and I believe that he's not the correct GM for Pegula's vision of multiple stanley cups. You have your opinion and I have mine.

Well I think it will be too little too late to make a deal at that point. The team isn't showing any signs of winning even tho they are healthier.

Honestly, the off season deals are decent (still up in the air with Leino) and I commend Darcy for it. I believe he hasn't given this team all the correct tools. A better scoring center during the off season would have been nice. Both Stafford and Roy looked great last season but how about their past stats. They have NEVER played as well as they did last season. They've been in the league for a long time, if they were going to have a breakout season it would have been a while ago. Darcy does keep certain players for a long time, that can't be argued. Ryan Miller has been in the system since 1999, Guastad since 2000, Roy and Pominville has been in the system since 2001, Hecht 2002, and Stafford 2006. Oh and the head coach since 1997....

I'm not pissed off at Leino at all the only complaint i have about the Leino deal is he paid way too much for his services and if he doesn't produce he will end up just like Wade Redden where he has no trade value and you have to bury him in the minors. To be completely honest with you this team needs a complete overhaul. Start with GM and Coach and work you way down. Roy, Stafford, Boyes and a few others can go. This organization needs staff and players that have the desire and willingness to win year in and year out and this current core of players needs to go. Sorry but I don't think Pegula had this vision when he bought the team!!!! And no I didn't sign up on these boards just to sit and bitch about Darcy. I have been a diehard Sabres fan since 1980 and stand by this team but I just don't believe this team the way they have been playing for the last couple of months and then losing to teams that are below them in the standing is going to go places. Changes need to be made and everyone knows it.

I read about Punch's departure. He promised sweeping changes to the roster the year he was fired, which didn't come, and they started out badly.

If you knew Ferguson was canned in June, and didn't have to look that up - you can color me impressed!

Meehan was one of those quit or your fired scenarios.

But nope; I can't come up with anyone off the top of my head who's been fired mid season. Now's a good time to start. Why? Because someone can come in and properly assess the players here then, and make changes in the off season, if not sooner.

There are a few on here that you can say the samething until your blue in the face and they won't change. But I agree with you that this team needs change's and it's start's from the top and goes all the way down. I just don't see Regier and Lindy living up to Pegula's vision of multiple stanley cups. I just don't understand why Pegula and Black haven't done anything yet. It's so obivious to see this team is on life support. Top paid team in the league and they suck. Wow it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out that you can't buy a championship ask Dan Snider and Jerry Jones.

It's "critiquing" more than it is whining; so relax Francis.

Secondly, it's ridiculous to spell "ridiculous" as ridicolous.
:P

Same with the trade Roy/Stafford talk. Of course they suck, but they have zero trade value right now. Trading Roy for a 2nd rounder won't change anything and you won't get much more for a hurt player who hasn't played well since a major knee injury.
Darcy is fucked right now. If he trades core guys for their current value people will say bad trade. If he doesn't do anything he's fucked too.

If Darcy is fucked, as you suggest, he has only himself to blame.
