You forgot to mention who got the retarded contract, too. At the time we all were laughing to the bank with Leino, and now we learned he was robbing us. Who thought losing Timmy was bad? Not me. Probably not anyone, but we're not NHL GM's who are supposed to know better. Actually, on second thought, most of us were scratching our heads about who would play center. I suppose we'd have wanted to keep TC if it were him or nothing.

Let's be a little fair here. Connolly is playing on the way better team/line right now. Connolly wouldn't have that many points as a Sabre.
[sarcasm]Likely he would be out for the season by now [sarcasm]

I expected more from Leino but he is hardly the problem right now. Tough to get points with Helen Keller swinging the stick next to you.

You sure about this??? You're sure Terry Pegula spoke with him directly, right? What is your source that he offered the same exact thing Rangers offered.

On of the interviews about free agency had us offer Richards the same thing he got with the Rangers.

Or at least I remember it also.

Daz, you're right...I shouldn't have said "never" about top Cs, just not very often.

Anyway, the comparison of Connolly and Leino sort of proves my point. A player that has gerat skill but never produced to potential and was run out of Buffalo, is now out producing a player that, at least from theoutside looking in, seemed to be a better player that now can't produce under Lindy. Coincidence? Maybe, but with all the other indicators with other players the last couple years...probably not.

Darcy and Lindy both need to go. Just blow this fucking place up. I'm sick of this core, I'm sick of the same old excuses, and I'm sick of waiting.

One more month and I will be on board with this. Trade for another first round pick or two in next years draft and maybe one the year after that. Build for the future with what you could have and don't settle for a future with what you already have. If things stay the course dealing with this for the next few years would present us with some pretty shitty hockey. Plus, stock pile picks and it stands a better chance that more youngsters pan out.

I enjoy watching youngsters that have something to prove then vet's that have long term deals already wrapped up. The first and second year guys are looking to bust their ass to get a deal inked and some money in their pockets. They also are usually happy with 1-3 year contracts

Regier did his job. Face it, it's not his fault. Leino had what, 50 points last year? Leino also agreed to be a center? Leino didn't want to be a center anymore, even then, that's Lindy's job to find his role. Signing Ehrhoff, Regher, and Leino and getting a 2nd rounder was an amazing job by Darcy. FACE IT. HE DID AMAZING IN THE OFFSEASON.

Wait, back up. So you're saying it's Brad Richards fault the Sabres don't have a good, top center???????????????????Really!
Oh, now it's Leino's fault, because he was a center in juniors 10 years ago. C'mon man.
It's our GM's job to field a good center. He's had 15 years to do it. FAIL!
Why, if he's so AMAZING, is our team so fucking HORRIBLE. The PENS can contend w/o Malkin and Crosby, now THAT'S amazing. This team, and ALL OF IT'S ASPECTS, lie on the shoulders of it's GM. So it's logical to say if the team is horrible, then it's his fault. Period. Even if it's Lindy or the players fault, it REMAINS Darcy's responsibility to correct it.

ps, wtf is with the fuktarded Ovechkin comment?? Keep aASSuming, and you'll become one. and ya, I'm still content with the Zubrus, Dom Moore and Torres acquisitions.

You know what I DO assume, since Golisanos departure Regier got us Boyes, Ehrhoff, Leino, Regher, and a 2nd and dumped a 2nd, Byron, Connolly, and Butler. That's amazing. Darcy did his job. Lindy didn't.

As for Richards, yes, Pegula DID say he spoke with him, and we DID offer Richards the same amount. Darcy found Leino. The next best option.

You keep throwing this out there. I'm assuming you heard something from TSN. Especially since I found this...
http://www.wgr550.com/Richards-Mulls-Options--Sabres-Out/10257785

Fuck it, I'll cut to the chase

Quote:
Earlier today, Sabres GM Darcy Regier told the media that the Sabres are all but out of the running for free agent C Brad Richards. The team spoke with the agent for Richards, but did not travel to meet with him in person as other teams did on Friday. After the signing of forward Ville Leino, Regier said that they essentially have their team. Regier did not rule out a future trade or signing. The GM said, "We'll work with the centers we have. I think over the course of the summer we'll focus in on possible trade opportunities to see if there's any way to improve, but we feel really good at where we are right now."

Many teams have been making their pitches for Brad Richards to play for their team. TSN reported Darcy Regier and Terry Pegula were in Canada to speak with Richards and his agent. That was not true, "I initiated conversations with Pat Morris. We had plans to go up there to meet with him. As the day progressed and with the number of clubs that were in line to speak to Newport Sports, we really got into a time pressure situation where we had to make a decision. We felt very strongly about Ville and we felt it was important to make sure that we didn't allow a quality player like him slip by him."

It's a phrase that basically means, if you wanna see the Sabres at the top, turn the rankings.

Remember when they had the whole camera set up outside of the place where Brad Richards was being interviewed by multiple teams? They said Pegula came in to meet him, and I saw Pegula go into the building. Now, either Versus was lying, or I'm correct.

I'm not discounting what you saw but this is the first time I heard that Pegula personally met with Richards. I also don't know why Darcy would lie when it was on TV. The article did state that TSN reported it but it wasn't true.

I remember hearing the Sabres weren't doing a presentation like the other teams, but that Pegula himself wanted and did speak to Richards. VS had this on, and was saying all the teams speaking to Richards.

Maybe VS was mistaken or something, but that's what I saw

I would like to see Darcy clear cap room at the deadline, this way they can go shopping for a guy like Parise or at least a few middle of the road centers. There are zero centers in free agency next season so drafting a top center or trading is the only way.

I really hope Darcy doesn't re-sign Goose to the standard 1 million Connolly type raise, this will make him a 3.25 million dollar 4th line center. If he re-signs both Hecht and Goose I will most likely buy center ice and watch another team. All of a sudden Darcy has tons of cash and he is throwing it around like a drunk Pirate, that deal for McCormick was nuts, no team would have signed him for 1.2 mill to play 4 mins.

1. Field offers for Miller
2. Don't re-sign hecht, Boyes and Goose(10 million cap hit folks lol)
3. try to move up in the draft to get a top 5 pick
4. Ryan Smyth(1 year deal cheap?)
5. Parise? Money is no object now.
6. Look for young up and coming centers and sign 3rd line defensive center who can score also(you can't win the cup with bottom 6 guys getting zero goals in the playoffs)

Darcy wants to ADD to the "core" so I guess this means the Sabres are keeping all the same guys and just maybe losing Hecht or Boyes, you know the coaches Son Goose will be back. Next year gets interesting because so many guys will only have 1 year left on their deals and that is the only time Darcy ever trades anyone is when they are going into the last year of the deal or last year at deadline.
