Well the Islanders got their first win of this season tonight in the shootout against Carolina.

Quote:
It had been more than six months since the last time the New York Islanders left the ice with two points. The drought finally came to a halt on Wednesday -- despite another third-period meltdown.

After blowing a 3-1 lead late in the third period, Jeff Tambellini, Frans Nielsen and John Tavares all beat Cam Ward in the shootout as the Isles escaped Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum with a 4-3 shootout victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.

It was the Isles' first win since April 4, when they beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-1 at the Coliseum. New York (1-3-3) closed out last season with four consecutive losses during which it was outscored 24-5. The Isles opened this season with six consecutive losses and had gone three game without picking up a point. But Andy Sutton's rare offensive outburst (1 goal, 1 assist), combined with Dwayne Roloson's 35-save effort, helped give the Isles a reason to smile.

Glad to see a team short on talent but high on effort finally get 2 points. But man, wouldn't that have been a kick in the teeth if they had lost in the shootout?

Soooo...does this mean that the Leafs are the only team in the league to not have won a game yet? :D

Well who will be the easiest opponent for the Laffs to maybe get a win against?

I am so looking forward to the game on the 30th...the Sabres need to dispense some indiscriminate, wanton asskicking!

The Islanders took Pittsburgh to a shootout.

The Laffs wouldn't come close to that mark.

They might but they most likely might beat a shitty Nashville team

If RDP can come back and STAY FUCKING HEALTHY, the Islanders instantly become a much better team.

If DiPi comes back, they will be a very competitive team.

They will also have a choice to make, between Biron and Roloson...as DiPietro's cap will come back into play, once he's off the long-term IR.

And that has already started fueling speculation about a return of Biron to Buffalo - A whole other "kettle of fish". To be sure.

makes me smile a little more that it was against the flushing toilets. I'm sure Nassau was rocking.

exactly, when dipi comes back, they can trade away some of their wealth in solid goaltending, getting better in the process by that move alone, and add an asset when trading away some of their plethoria of talent in net. the isles are much better then their record suggests. and they got robbie schremp, who is a low risk, high reward guy.

The Isles were lucky, they blew a 2 goal lead with about 6 minutes left in the third.

Cam signed a long term extension last year, so he isn't going anywhere.

cam ward is an above average goalie. he certainly will help a team, but hes not a stand on his head and steal a game regularly goalie.

Exactly, he's not terrible nor will he ever be a superstar.
