Not sure how many of you saw this penalty, but Vanek gave the d-man a hard push in the back while the puck was between the d-man and another Sabre. It was a border-line call after two PPs were given to Buffalo. Yeah Vanek has a high number of minors this season, but I don't recall many of them being bad/stupid penalties that cost the team anything too significant. I just don't see the need for Ruff to continually use Vanek as his whipping boy, or to punish the team by taking their best scorer off the ice when scoring has been an issue already. Ruff should be figuring out why the PK has taken a dump the last 3-4 games insetad of taking his frustration out on Vanek. If he wants to get tough on players, aren't there several better candidates anyway?

This is another reason why Lindy is a fucking idiot. I saw the play and it was very borderline unlike Gerbes blatant retaliatory hooking that resulted in a goal by Gomez. Yes, MTL scored immediately after Vanek's penalty had expired but it wasn't something to bench him. Why not bench the d-men who let Simmons score twice, back to back, in the same exact way during the PHI game???

There are so many more players that deserve to be sitting than Vanek.

My homer for him aside, Vanek has been guilty of some pretty bad penalties at bad times recently, but the call that earned him the benching is just plain stupid. If benching him is because it appeared Vanek didn't recall their meetings regarding the bad penalties or he thought Vanek decided to ignore what Ruff had said, did he bench Stafford for tuning him out the other night when Lindy was ripping into him? How about Roy for his usual 2 tripping and 2 hooking calls per game that have led to big scoring chances?

I'm all for driving home the fact that it is on the players to play with a high discipline, especially when playing against a team that is notorious for embellishing a play, but benching your star forward for THAT call was just plain ridiculous. Also, not saying star players are above being benched (See Ovechkin) and I think in many cases if the player is in a slump, it can light the fire under them. But really, Lindy? And if what Paul Hamilton said has any weight to it, player fines for taking bad penalties? How about fines for players who refuse to put in the work, take shifts or whole games off?

You've got to be kidding me. Our best player, our pretty much only goal scorer this season other than Pommers, and you bench him. I don't know what Ruff has against Vanek, but he's got to dislike him somehow. What the fuck, you should NEVER bench one of the two only goal scorers on your team for a penalty that probably should've come with a vaginal douche for whoever Vanek "pushed".

Want to bench someone Lindy? Try Brad Boyes. He scores 1 fucking goal in the last 50, and he's promoted to PP unit 1. To steal one from baldy himself, "it's a joke".

Get rid of Lindy the guy is a loser, what kind of retard coach plays Goose 19 mins per game in the last two playoff years and thinks he is going to win a playoff round(vanek less even strength time)? Either trade Vanek for a center or fire Lindy, playing Vanek 4 mins in the first 40 mins is just a waste of 7 mill cap hit. Every game I went to this year Vanek played 9-10 mins in first 40 mins.

How many did he play in the last 20 minutes? Do you think it may be part of Lindy's strategy to "hold on" for 40, and then come back and win?

I've seen him do it a few times, where he benches the entire first like for 1/2 of the 3rd period, and then lets them go have 1-1.5min shifts, and it's worked.

So Lindy said this morning that Vanek is out of rope in terms of taking penalties. You know the media is going to take this to Vanek and ask his opinion of what the coach said. But yet he claims that Roy is such a great guy in the locker room and says his relationship with him is like a father/son situation. Lindy, you're fucked in the head.

Safe to say Van is officially in Lindy's dog house and is likely sharing a cell with Afinogenov's ghost..
