As a rookie playing third line center minutes on VANCOUVER, Hodgson has 33 POINTS. That's like GAUSTAD getting 33 points with less ice time than he had. Except, Hodgson can improve EVEN MORE.

We have Kaleta, McCormick, McNabb, Regher, Weber, and others to fulfill in the hitting department. A few of those can fight, but if we want to keep up with Boston we need a good fighter. One enforcer and we're good. Hodgson was a good pickup.

I was disappointed that we couldn't make a trade for Kathryn Tappen.

I wouldn't classify Kassian as an enforcer really. Yeah he would drop the gloves when necessary, but he was really good at puck possession down low using his big body. Andrew Peters he aint.

well put XC. That's is one thing this team lacks especially playing against the trap

Winning battles along the boards is one of Hodgson's strengths, even though he's average size.

Or at least for one of those enormous breasts. Maybe we're looking to make a move for Alyonka Larionov's ass at the draft??

Alyonka Larionov is Russian, Lindy wouldn't want anything to do with her.

I think it has more to do with him spending too much time at the rink than because she's Russian, if ya know what I mean.

One other thing, Hodgson is 5th in rookie scoring, but 64th in rookie icetime.

Well, however you slice it, you can't say Darcy didn't roll the dice. Didn't turn out to be a boring dealine day for us after all.

One thing I want to point out is, Hodgson was 4 in goals scored for the Nucks and 6th in points on their team. Considering he was 10th in time on ice for that team, he also has 5 PP goals, good for 4th on the Nucks. He also is very disciplined, only 8 PIMs in 63 games.

One big thing I say is he has 801 minutes of icetime, he has 33 points, Derek Roy has 1144 minutes this year and only has 35 points.

I think you just said we got a guy a little better than Roy who is soft as a pillow ("He also is very disciplined, only 8 PIMs in 63 games.")

Roy has 300 more minutes than Cody does, if you do the Math and go by points per minute, Cody would have 47 with Roy's icetime.

Can't believe Darcy was still able to pry that first rounder for Gaustad. Sooo cool. Good for Darcy

Well, we're worried about Boston and being tough... Enforcers are tough, and we have enough hitters.

Oh, and Andrew Peters wasn't an enforcer... He was TUURABLE

Well you know what I mean...he may have sucked at fighting but he was "that guy".
The call goes out, and he steps up. He may have known he'd get his ass kicked but he was Johnny on the spot.
That's what an enforcer is to me.

Kassian IS NOT going to be Lucic. Even if Kassian becomes like Lucic, that means he's a 2nd line RW that is tough as nails and can beat anyone in a fight, but won't score much without help. Lucic is limited as a player. Sure we all hate him but that doesn't mean he's actually that good. Kassian hasn't impressed much so far. It's early and the whole team has struggled but I still haven't seen what everybody has been hoping for from him yet. Hodgson has the potential as a 2nd line C at the very least, and has already proven his potential this season, unlike Kassian.

As for Gaustad, that was a flat out steal from a team that is admittedly looking to win now. Gaustad doesn't really make any difference for Buffalo this season, and then Regier will probably have a great chance at re-signing him in July, if this hasn't already been agreed upon.

Overall, Buffalo loses Kassian, MAG, a 4th rd pick, and Gaustad for two months. They get Hodgson, Sulzer, a 1st rd pick, and a good chance at getting Gaustad back. If Gaustad returns, this day is indeed a great job by Regier.

How do you figure a little better? Doing quick math, he gets 1 pt every 24 minutes. Roy gets 1 pt every 32 minutes. He's 30% better based on points alone. If he comes here with a good, selfless, team-oriented attitude, he's 130% better than Roy.

The Gaustad deal was excellent, that was the maximum return in my mind.

The Kassian deal blindsided me, and after taking time to think about it, I still don't like it. I do like Hodgsons attitude and skills, but he's just another Lady Bing "gamer" with humble 45 point expectations. Just like Boyes, Leino, Ennis, Stafford, and more. He's a support player who is going to be expected to be a star, and he will fall short just like Leino. This team needed to keep Kassian, and ADD more guys like him. They don't have the top end talent to win with finesse alone. They need a balance of grit and skill to compete in the playoffs.

They go from giving Gragnani power play time over EVERYBODY else on the team to dumping him for a 27 year old stay at home defender without any physical edge. So, I'm happy he's gone, but they really grossly overrated him to the point of costing them a shot at the playoffs this season. So I hope Sulzer is worth it.

Why are people writing off Hodsgons' career as a bust? Kid's a rookie with talent. SCORING talent.

Losing Ka$$ian sucks. But from the looks of it, the Hodgson should be a good one. Time will tell. I still wonder if Darcy will try to bundle those 1st rounders for a top 2 pick. Thoughts?

Exactly. He's 22. People are treating Kassian as if he's already successful. He's not. Cody is successful with a small amount of ice time.

The more I read at other sites and think about it the more I like the trade. I still think we need to make a solid push for a legit top center but IMO we're putting pieces together

Okay this is my take on both moves today. Gaustad deal was a great move by getting a first rounder. It will be a high pick because I think Nashville is going all in this year.
Now onto the Kassian deal Im still not a big fan of trading much needed toughness and his skill for a center that hasn't produced until this year. Hodgsen had injury issues in the past that slowed his progress but I think Vancouver made this move because u have a kid from the USA coming soon in schroeder who I believe had the most points by any player in world juniors career for the US. To me you are in a division with Boston who is tough all around and you gave up on a young power forward which this team desperately needs to play a team like Boston. Instead they got smaller and softer. Don't get me wrong I like Cody and I think he will put up more points than Kassian but I think Kassians toughness, game on the boards and being able to shield the puck to make a play will be missed. Power forwards just don't develop over night. I just pray Cody pans out because right now not really liking this trade. Plus Grags for Sulzer is a no brainer that Grags will get a shot to see what he can do with another team.
