What? Boooooooo!

I don't get cheating in college. Nobody's forcing you, you're paying. So fuck that noise. I had a "friend" once ask me if she could have a paper I wrote for a class in college since we went to different schools, she needed help or whatever. But I told her to get lost. Take pride in your learning, you cheating lowlife ;)

If you don't go to college you're basically fucked, and even going to college you might still be fucked, so I never would take pride in learning jack shit

That's part of my point. Your grades don't mean anything to anyone but you. Your degree isn't some magic key that opens up every door that would otherwise be closed to you. The rest of the world doesn't care about your schooling, so by cheating, you're really oly cheatig yourself and costing yourself the only things you can get out of it: knowledge and accomplishment.

Learning in college isn't exactly pleasant. I'd say cheating is only bad when you're learning the shit you really need to learn. Other than that, anything to get your ass through the meaningless bullshit.

As an art major I had to take some math classes...why? At no time will anything in that math class help me. My wife is a math wizz and took the class online for me. I see nothing wrong with it at all.

He meant, or as it means to me, whether you get all A's or all C's, that degree is all that matters, they only look at the degree and not your grades to get you there.

But, I played in three hockey games this week and ended up with 4 goals and 1 assist.

First game was a beautiful deflection from the point where we won 1-0, the second game I scored our 4th goal in a 6-1 route, and tonight I got us on the ball with the first goal after being down 3-0 and then put in an insurance marker so we could win 7-5.

I'd have to say, it was a fun week of hockey for me.

I have never had one person ask me about my college grades. I also spent 2 years as a fulltime dishwasher after getting a degree from the most respected school in Canada. Of course, I was in Arts, and maybe that's the difference between taking arts and science.

Oh yeah, you had no need for math when doing that woodworking and making those things for your neighbor right?

I doubt he's learning simple math used to make a table in a college course.

You never know. Also, no need for math in art? Do you hear yourself? What about sculpture? Perspective? Angles?

You learn that shit before college. College math isn't the type of math you need for basic life.

All I need is ratios, addition, subtraction, fractions and angles. That extra crap will never serve a purpose for me. Don't get me wrong, math helps in a lot of my work but once you get to a certain level it's just not something i need to know. The whole point of the class is so the school can get more money. case in point: i had to take beginning drawing classes and begining portrait classes. When I left those classes I went over to the gallery and taugt the same thing. It was going back to kindergarten but i still had to take them even though the dean and the faculty all knew me well and came to my shows. All I'm saying is that some classes are only on the docket to make the school money.

I haven't been entirely unemployed (I worked part time for a stretch, but I was still working ~30hrs a week at $20/hr) since July of 2002, and a college degree has never factored into a single position I've held.

And on the flipside (or maybe in the same vein), I have a BA from one of the best schools on earth, a Masters, and a teaching license with two endorsements, and 7 years of experience in my field, and I've been unemployed for almost a year. Not that the degree didn't factor into my teaching job, but a degree is no magic key for me.

It depends on the profession you're going into and the amount of jobs in your area.

I think we're in the same vein; I was trying to show that degrees != jobs or success.

Teachers have it way better in Canada. Have you considered moving back?

Believe it or not, I'm US born and bred. It kinda makes me happy you think I'm Canadian, just cause it reminds me of how my friends in NY said I was a Canadian spy when I was going to McGill. There's a good chance I'd have just stayed in Montreal after graduating were I Canadian. But, for good or bad, I'm an American, now with an American ball-and-chain.
