so, with all these arenas going out and getting the new style video boards, does anyone know or think pegula will get a new center hung video board? i know the sabres just replaced the second video board in 07, but the new one is already obsolete, sadly.

the new ones look like the dallas cowboys stadium board (but smaller)

http://lightning.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=630531

the lightning installed one, the houston rockets/aeros installed one, indiana pacers installed one. even my old kalamazoo wings installed one.

obviously, the trend is going in this direction, and this isnt a big deal what-so-ever. i just wondered if anyone else thinks pegula is going to continue with this trend.

got nothing else to talk about.

The new one is far from obsolete.

i somewhat disagree. tampa replaced their board, which was newer and more technologically advanced then first niagaras. it was one big board that wrapped all the way around the board. they could split it into 4 separate boards to show the game, or have it as one big one. (obviously, you can only see one board at a time, but it was like a reverse ribbon board.) it was really nice. not that buffalos isnt nice. it is.

im not saying its 100% necessary yet, but you got to think with pegulas pockets, and his desire to keep buffalo cutting edge, he will go with the latest and greatest.

There are other upgrades the building needs way more than a new jumbotron. The 2nd set of escalators going upstairs for one.

an out of town scoreboard would be nice, too. wasnt the ice an issue last year, too?

i certainly agree that replacing a 5 year old HD videoboard might seem very unnecessary, on the other hand, he could always have it sent to PSU for their arena.

have they started HARBORcenter yet? i thought in october was when they planned on beginning getting the lot ready for construction.

I would think such a large capital investment depreciates much more slowly than 5 years.
Most corporations don't buy new shiny things until the old things can be written off the books.

Perhaps moneybags Pegula could just do it, but I'm with Tom, I don't think it's obsolete.

i think the fan interaction aspect of technology at games is evolving, and rapidly. in 07, that board was top of the line. in 2012, with teams replacing identical boards for the sparkling new ones that are huge and do more, ect, i just wondered if pegula would go that route to keep the sabres on the top of the food chain in the NHL.

Obsolete in life expectancy....Not by any means. No doubt technology has skyrocketed since 2007 so its definitely possible that it's not able to be used to the fullest extent of technology. I don't seen them replacing it in the near future.

??? They have put out of town scores on the ribbon board for years. Before that they had static boards with the out of towns.

As far as the ice, Daddy T-Pegs dropped millions on new dehumidifiers and cooling apparatus. The ice was reportedly better than it had been for years.

No idea where you're getting this Mike. (As an aside : I think the existing board would be way too big to fit into the PSU arena. )

HarborCenter pre-construction has started. Lot is fenced off, no more parking allowed there. Many spots where engineering work and surveys are being done.

i mean like a board dedicated to out of town scores. the ribbons show them, yeah. im just thinking like JLA has out of town boards in each corner. not saying it has to be that drastic, but something like that.

i remember hearing complaints that the ice was worse last year. nothing concrete, just alot of people saying "look at the puck bounce/roll/ect" or "look at him, lost an edge." and then make a point about the ice looking bad. this was by fans, so its not concrete by any means.

im not complaining by any means, nor putting down the facility. i hope it doesnt come off that way. im just basically wanting to spend pegulas monies.

im anxious for harborcenter. it looks wicked awesome sweet, and that will just help the city in so many ways. cant wait to see it.

It's 2012. Dedicated display space for anything is dumb. You don't need permanent signage for out of town scores.

well, i have to ask. how often does the ribbon show the out of town scores? i never pay attention to the ribbon myself, because im watching the game, and i check my phone for OOTS. a smaller LED strip above the main ribbon (above the luxury boxes, below the 300s) that is primarily for OOTS would be nice. sure, it can do other stuff, but youd know where to look.

I've got no problem using the ribbons for out of town scores, etc, but my gripe is that during stoppages of play, the ribbons go almost exclusively to advertisements, and not displaying useful information. Worst is when there is a PP or penalty, and you want to look at the penalty clock during a play stoppage, but it's not there.

That's false.

If any penalties are active, the lower ribbon of the main scoreboard shows the remaining times and players 100% of the time. It never shows ads during those times.

The bowl ribbon does change and show ads and sponsors during stoppages.

This lockout is going to be hell and we'll be lucky to make it out alive...or with our sanity intact.

This assumes that I was sane to begin with, which we know is false.
