I'd almost equate them to republicans of 20 or 30 years ago.

Speaking of libertarians....

Friend #1 : Unfortunately, if people did not give at least 2 days notice that they were taking the two hours to vote, the employer does not have to allow it. NY is already forgone for 0bama, probably 60/40. I voted libertarian. If they get 5% nationally, they get access to the same campaign funding as the two majors and may help start to break the stranglehold they have on our system.

Friend #2 : Shouldn't the libertarian not want the campaign funding, on principle?

I LOLed.

GOP needs to do some real soul-searching. John Boehner comes out saying there needs to be comprehensive immigration reform two days after the election. How fucking funny. Did they ever really think they could cling to power via racism (yes, I said it) in a country where the white man is a minority and white people will soon be in the minority? Sean Hannity says he was wrong about immigration. It's incredible how quickly politicians will shed their beliefs when winning an election is on the line.

Think about the bigger picture for a moment.
The two politicians who put the most political capital on the line for immigration reform in recent history were George W. Bush and John McCain. Maybe the party didn't agree with their positions, but they were both the leaders of the party.

Two of the brightest GOP stars who will be on a national level very soon are Marco Rubio (Cuban-American) and Bobby Jindall (Indian-American). Remember Romney distanced himself from Rubio's immigration stance (which is pretty much the same one Obama has) right after the GOP convention.

I think your characterization of the party being racist is unfair and untrue, but it doesn't matter, because the future looks much different than the past no matter how you slice it.

And before anybody gets upset about me calling them a racist, let me clarify. Of course not all Republicans are racists. But, racism has been a part of their support in recent years, and it does underlay a lot of the rhetoric surrounding immigration issues. It's a bread-and-butter staple of the Hannity/Limbaugh/O'Reilly stances on immigration and welfare. My father tells me that in rural WNY, where I grew up, everyone had these signs saying "America vs. Obama". Well, there's some racism behind that too. Don't tell me there's not. I grew up there. I know fucking well how many racists there are there. That doesn't however mean you are a racist if you voted Romney or whatever.

I'll be so glad when Obama is out of office so everyone can seriously stop the race baiting bullshit.
Maybe you aren't calling all Republicans racist, but many do...idiots like Chris Matthews.

Christ, I want Condi Rice to run on the GOP ticket just to shut everyone up, but I'm sure she'd get called "Uncle Tom" by the left.

racists indeed.

Whether or not you agree Cross, there's a real perception out there that lines up with what I've saying the Republicans really need to shed. Their policies haven't done much to help them shed it.

Look at who Romney won in the election: old people and white men. Both groups without much of a demographic future. (OK, old people will continue to be a huge part of the population. BUT, eventually they won't be the SAME old people).

Yes and it's a perception spread by the likes of MSNBC, not by their policies.
Just as Fox News wants you to believe all Democrats are socialists bent on the destruction of America.

Unless you can point out some racist policies, because IMO saying "we want immigrants to follow existing law when coming here" isn't racist.

Well of course the reality is that the majority of GOP policies are really anti-poor. Thus because of socio-economic realities, the policies end up having a disproportionally adverse effect on minorities.

A desire to have a financially sustainable entitlement system is not "anti-poor".

A desire to maintain the status quo of an entitlement system that's going bankrupt is.

What did I lie about? according to your stats Romney won the older age groups, white voters, and men. I missed the married vs. unmarried, but all minorities and younger voters were won by Obama.

Yeah, I mean, who thinks they should be ENTITLED to things like a good education, care when they are sick, and the pensions that they were promised throughout their working careers? I mean, people really ask for the world from our government. They need to get off their asses and take care of themselves.

Do you honestly believe even the worst politician gets out of bed in the morning scheming about how they can fuck over poor people?

Do you believe our current entitlement system is sustainable?
Because when politicians keep telling people they can keep getting all the benefits they've been promised when simple math proves them wrong, that's the worst type of deceit there is.
