...no, I'm not gonna ask if you think they're geting a cup, but what did you like?? Not like?? I was looking for the intangibles and found plenty

Stafford taking on Hartnell was huge. Pegula and the team handing out programs and autographs when the doors opened was a really cool thing, too

Grigorenko: “It was great to have so many people here. I can really see it’s a great city to play in. People like hockey and it’s an honor to play here.”

I love that. Also, The crowd of 19,070 was the Sabres’ 32nd straight sellout.

Yeah, that was a pretty satisfying game.

Also, I hope Scott hartnell develops a penis tumor.

I would like to see more of Grigs.

VERY classy on the players and ownership to mingle with the fans before the game. If you want to make amends with the fans who feel entitled, along with the 50% off sale all last week, I think they hit it on the head. Also, with that, the need to be a competitive team on the ice will get everyone on the band wagon. Which leads me to...

I think there is going to be/already is a big difference in attitude with this team from last year. There was obvious rust but with time, that will clear up. Kaleta and Ott were launching themselves at players like scud missiles. Lots of sand paper in the lineup and for Staff going after that red headed ape Hartnell, he has earned my respect. But, he (as well as others) needs to keep that up if they want to establish themselves as a team no one wants to try anything with. I found Myers was very sloppy to start the game but by the end of the 2nd and the 3rd, he looked like he was making better decisions with the puck and feeling more comfortable.

One game, I know, but I'd give them an 8/10 for yesterday.

Toronto won’t be a cake walk tonight. Playing in their building, you need to treat it like you’re down 1-0 right out of the gate. Take the air out of the building early and turn their fans on them. Basically, don’t let up.

Has there ever actually been air in the ACC? :p

Heh...yeah, it doesn't take much to turn that building against the team does it?

 Does hot air count?

Yeah, on second thought, it wouldn't take much to turn their sheep against them. Shit, even Kessel taking the ice is enough to make them toss waffles.

And just because this never gets old..

One thing I'm really hoping for is to see the Sabres bring that grit to Toronto tonight. Play them like a the rivals they are and make them not want us to play to them again. I despise the Leafs

From the game yesterday, they are one speedy bunch. Who knows if the back-to-back hurt the Flyers, but plenty of odd man rushes on our side for once. They do need to cut the crap of not playing a full 60 minutes, we all know how the second period started and then ended.

They also just need to keep playing smart hockey like they were doing. Working powerplay passes instead of just letting Myers or Ehrhoff take the shot on the point will help them mix things up.

I'm not expecting a Cup after once game. But they keep up that fire and intensity, it'll be a very good year for them. That Pommers/Vanek duo has not lost anything. Were they playing together over the pond? Or was it just Vanek and Myers, and didn't Ennis play too with them?

Also, Grigorenko made some very nice passes and some good moves. I watched the game on a replay and he was noticeable on a few plays that almost resulted in goals. His pass to either Ott or Kaleta, which was basically a behind the back pass was nice to see. If he ever gets the chance to play on the top line, you could see some very nasty plays happen.

So, after two games, is anyone else getting a big ol' hockey stiffy for this team? It's early yet, they have plenty of time to swoon, things WILL go wrong, but.....they're looking pretty damn good so far.

(ahem, meyers....get on the 'pretty damn good' train please)

I'm liking the immediate reply to any bad hit or goalie running.

When Kaleta mugged and destroyed Kessel last night for bumping Miller, now that was awesome.

Oh yeah it was, I LOVED how confused and rumpled Kessel looked after Kaleta jumped on him, it was priceless.

^^ +1

If they can keep up this new attitude (granted, it's only 2 games) the Sabres will turn a lot of heads by showing the rest of the league they can't fuck with them anymore. I'm really digging Ott's mind set and it seems to be spreading throughout the room, thus far. But, the key will be that they NEED to keep this up. And once McCormick and Gerbs are healthy and cleared to rejoin the lineup that is only going to drive that point home. Not that Gerbe is a player who strikes fear in the eyes of the opposition (ok, maybe goalies, and maybe midgets) but to get those energy guys back in action is going to be wicked awesome.

My question is; when do we see Weber and Brennan make their season debut?

Either first defensive injury, or some really boneheaded defense by someone.

I'm really surprised that Sulzer gets a spot over Weber and Brennan.

Ott has really gotten me to be a fan. That guy just works his ass off from start to finish. I, too, hope this "new attitude" will last. One thing is for sure, and yeah, it's only TV, but over all, they team just looks bigger. It used to be that we looked so small vs a lot of other teams, but now, we have some really big players on this team.

The ONLY thing that worries me is the 3rd period vs. Toronto. Granted, 2 games in 2 nights vs tough teams, first games back with no real pre-season, butr that looked to much like the old Sabres playing to not lose and relying on Miller to hold on for the win

He played very well last year when we got him, and his play has been fine to me this year also.

It is a surprise he did seeing how long Brenna and Weber has been in the system.
