In my opinion he should be sent to the juniors. He wasn't bad but he wasn't good either. He doesn't seem to make a difference, so send him down to succeed there and work on his game.

I've seen at least a giveaway a game from him and he has a penchant for blind passes...which aren't working.

Does he suck? No.
Has he earned a roster spot? IMO also No.

Those blind passes aren't a major flaw, it's an easy fix. Being sent down should be if he has obvious flaws that need to be developed. The talent is there, I think he should stay. He's decent defensively and makes space in the opposing zone and is playing better than most of those scrubs

He earned 17 minutes against Washington and had one of the best attempts at scoring.

He should stay and continue to get those types of minutes, and he should also be playing with wingers that are competent. Ott is the only one he's played with that actually is a threat to score.

Put him with Stafford and Ennis and I bet we all see a completely different game from him. Or between Foligno and Stafford, anything to make him play with better players. I want him to stay because he has shown some flashes of brilliance. Obviously not on the scoreboard yet, but they will come.

hes certainly not hurting the team as far as i can tell.

still, id play it safe and let him earn a spot as a 19 year old next season. 9 months can do wonders to a teenagers body and mental set. and to keep from burning a year off his entry level.

but im not darcy and co.

Well, I guess that settles that.

Interesting.

I watched the Jackets game last night and the commentators kept talking about how much Ryan Johansen's game has improved and how much playing in the AHL for a little while helped him. I thought "Duh!" I watched that guy in juniors and he was incredible, but Columbus rushed him into the lineup and stunted his growth as a player. I feel like the Sabres are maybe doing the same thing with Grigorenko.

I would agree if he were playing for the Amerks this season. I don't know how much better he was getting playing in juniors.
Not that I think he should stay with the team...I don't think his play has earned it.

I was 50/50 on wanting him to stay. Now that he's here I hope Lindy the dumb ass takes him off of the fourth line. I'd put him with Vanek and Pominville.

I think it's the wrong decision because it burns a year of his entry level contract. Nobody believes the Sabres have a chance to contend for the cup, so I don't get it.

EDIT: ...and I think it's not fair to sit a guy for him. He wasn't better than any of the other players. In fact he has the same stats than John Scott (5 games, 0 points, -1)
EDIT 2: ...and it probably means that Ott continues to play wing. The only guy who can win faceoffs. The more I think about it the more I come to the conclusion that this is actually stupid.

It's a tough situation because he can't play in the AHL. Personally, I don't think anything good can come from him going back to Quebec. He would be a man playing among boys, both in stature as well as talent and it could lead to him developing some really bad habits out there on the ice. He needs to learn the game at the professional level and he won't be able to do that in the QMJHL. He's far too good to be playing in juniors right now, but he isn't the dominate force we're all expecting him to become in the NHL. As long as they don't put too much pressure on him and allow him to continue to adjust to the NHL, I think this is the better option of the two since the AHL is out of the question.

Definetly needs top line mins. If he keeps playing with Scott and Kaleta its not going to be a benefit.

Playing wing has nothing to do with winning faceoffs or being able to take them.

Ott has taken very key faceoffs then went to playing wing right after.

So I don't see why Ott playing wing means a damn thing about faceoffs?

And Grigorenko is about 50% on faceoffs right no anyways, so he isn't hurting the team in that department.

Well, I'm hoping that Grigs will improve his play now that he knows he isn't on a tryout basis anymore.

Now he doesn't have to focus so much on not making mistakes. Making those mistakes now will only help him in the long run.

I've been pleasantly surprised with his defensive game, for a teenage rookie coming from the Q. And he had a couple flashes of offensive creativity before his tryout ended. Since then, he's netted his first goal, and looked pretty darn good out there. I agree he shouldn't be playing alongside guys like Scott, Kaleta or Ellis. But Hecht and Ott seem like competent linemates. Gerbe may be if he ever finds his game.

He had an assist on Sulzer's goal tonight. Got Hecht's rebound and saw Sulzer alone on the point and slid the puck over to him.
