WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama declared the swine flu outbreak a national emergency, giving his health chief the power to let hospitals move emergency rooms offsite to speed treatment and protect noninfected patients.

Seasonal flu causes roughly 36,000 deaths in the United States each year.

So far H1N1 has resulted in a little more than 1,000 deaths.

But go ahead and keep panicking citizen. Washington thinks this is priority numero uno.

The deficit is a National fucking Emergency...not this crap.

Could it be Washington thinks this is worthy of priority merely as a national scare tactic to get all the skirt hangers to cry for public health......"OMG! If we have public health, all this wouldnt happen"....... Obama smiles shyly and proclaims...VICTORY! and another 200 billion added to the deficit every year. The wonderful world of mind controlling propaganda.

Yup. Just wait until the dollar collapses. The question is not if, but when. That'll be the most funnest time ever.

Good thing the swine flu vaccine arrived on time and was well distributed, as guaranteed by our dependable and efficient gov't. What an excellent audition for gov't health care.

I blame Katrina for this. Ever since that disaster no one wants a Katrina to occur on their watch. I saw let it happen. Get it out of the way early on so you don't have to stress about it later. I could be wrong about this. I probably am but I haven't accepted a penny in government bail out money so you should all listen to me. I mean I must be doing something right... therefore I can do no wrong. We're all screwed.

When I quickly read through this the first time I thought you had written "I blame Kalinin for this"

The deficit might just be slightly more important than this Cross, but hell it's also a lot harder to fix for Barrack "babysteps" Obama.

Mr. Schony works in hospitals. His employer has mandated that he be vaccinated or lose his job. He is considered an outside health care worker and can't find anyone to vaccinate him. Fun times.

ItsMe brought up a great point. Cause for real concern would be a world-wide influenza pandemic such as 1918-1919 when at least 20 - 40 million people died. A mortality rate that some place at 50 out of every 1000 people GLOBALLY.

We have antibacterial hand sanitizer at work. I find it to be really stupid.

I have a coworker who's aprehension of swine flu teeters on paranoia. He dispenes a length of hand towel prior to washing his hands so his clean hands don't touch the handle after washing. I didn't know he did this until I took some hand towel as I was also washing my hands.

Fun - fun times.....

I've done that for years.

Not because of swine flu, I'm not worried about that. Just for the seasonal flu/cold/sniffles/whatever. Or the swine flu. Or whatever else.

Let down a bit of paper towel unless it's an automatic dispenser or you can use your arm on it. Wash your hands, tear off the paper towel, then use it to turn off the sink and to open the door on your way out.

Figure how many people do their thing in the bathroom then don't wash their hands, and grab the door handle on the way out. Then you grab that same door handle that they touched with Grier knows what on their hands.

I don't find anything wrong with hand sanitizer everywhere either - stop the spread of germs. Not necessarily swine flu either.

However, there have been studies that indicate over-use of antibacterial soaps or sanitizers can have negative effects and make you more susceptible to illness.

There was a strange sense of "prescience" present in the film "V For Vendetta" - Especially so when the government begins to barrage it's citizens with all the alarmism and misinformation and doomsday broadcasts...

There's only so much shit you can put on a sensible person's plate, before the whole fucking room starts to reek of it.

One cannot rule happy, confident, joyful people. They cannot be manipulated.

They cannot be set against each other.

:D :D :D :D

[edit: ...to be sure, one cannot rule a citizenry in which all hope is absent, as well - the complacency won't accommodate any action, other than a shrug.]
