Burke steals spotlight; NHLPA turmoil continues: Hotstove

"Brian Burke's mouth is getting him into hot water with the National Hockey League, and his comments are stirring the feud between his current and former teams, according to analysts on the Hotstove segment on Hockey Night in Canada.

The Toronto Maple Leafs general manager accused the Vancouver Canucks of complaining to the NHL head office about his alleged tampering with team operations.

It stems from an allegation that Burke spread false trade rumours during the entry draft in June.

Burke said that Canucks GM Mike Gillis should have taken up their concerns directly with him, rather than going to the league.

Burke's comments violate a league-imposed gag order, and he'll likely receive a fine, Hockey Night in Canada's Scott Morrison said on the Hotstove segment.

According to a few insiders, Burke may be trying to deflect attention from his struggling hockey club.

"What would you rather talk about, the Gillis and Burke feud or the fact that [the Leafs] are 0-7-1," analyst Mike Milbury asked. "It's a complete smokescreen. He'll pay the fine."

...Let's see how long fans put up with his nonsense. This team continues to lose...and his swagger goes down the crapper.

Another GM, about to be chewed up and spit out by the "Toronto Fan and Media" meat grinder?

I'm enjoying each and every day of it. They need to start introducing the team at the start of each game with a loud toilet flush sound effect.

I give Burke all the credit in the world, and really think that given the time he could turn that team around.

However, we all know how rabid and non-rational the media can be up there. Between that and the psychotic fanbase, I'm not sure they'll give him the time.

...Shoulda stuck with Cliff Fletcher. He was "interim" and the fans accepted a modicum of "rebuilding" with him at the helm. And he also has a history of having been popular. Everyone in Toronto would have been more willing to adopt a "wait and see" posture.

The minute one brings in the proverbial "hired gun"; the Messiah, who will lead the Leafs' Nation to the Promised Land...The clock starts ticking.

And the short attention-span, and rapid dissatisfaction with a losing record, manifest themselves in open hostility.

We all saw what "The Machine" did to John Ferguson Jr.

Burke, and he hasn't helped his own case with his arrogance, was brought in as the penultimate horse-trader and team general.

They were going to do this, and do that, and get tough, and turn fortunes around, and raise the dead, and increase penis-size, for everyone in Toronto...

Oooops. Open mouth, insert foot - Repeat until fired.

I have no sympathy for the man. He knew what he was getting into. He just figured he would be "above" suffering the fate of so many predecessors.

The clock is ticking - And by his own will and actions, and the expectations he's encouraged and allowed the fanbase to indulge.

Toskala, and his enormous glove.....need Viagra.

And "El Monstro" is looking pretty "domestic".

The goaltending situation in TO has become abysmal, once again. Hate to say: "I told you so"...But, I told you so.

burke is one of the best GMs in the game. hes aggressive and gets what he wants. the team will turn around sooner rather then later.

He'd have to turn over about half their roster to get what he wants. No small task.

It's a multi season project, if he's given the time.

...you fucking know we have a way of allowing other teams to break losing streaks, of making scrubs look brilliant and giving chumps all kinds of record "firsts".

Why even suggest it? A Pox On Thee ALL!

I have tickets to this one.

If they lose because of this jinxing, there will be beatings.

Goose will pound the Christ out of Orr...an angry Goose is a very dangerous creature.

It would almost be worth watching Orr try to run Miller...just to see Goose fuck him up really good. And the Leafs will be fucking dirty.

They'll lose to the Ducks tonight, and look to take the whole shebang of their losses out on us - There will be beatings. Grier help them, all.
