Ok...so, as the title indicates, i'm here today to ponder why men are supposed to wash their hands after urinating.

My stance:

You wake up in the morning. You probably take a shower, put on some clean clothes, and get on with your day. You go around touching things, getting all sorts of microbes on your hands. Meanwhile...down in the clean pair of underwear you put on, your junk is remaining clean except for whatever is being sweated out of it (I dont know about you guys...but my wang aint all that sweaty) and whatever was on the underwear when you put them on. (and we all wear clean underwear, because you never know when you'll be in an accident and they'll have to cut your clothes off at the hospital, and you dont want them to see the embarrassing skidmarks in your underwear. Thanks mom.)

Ok, so...it comes time during the day to take a piss.

You reach down there with your filthy hands, take out your clean penis, and spray away.

At this point...your hands have made your penis less clean than it was before, the cleanliness of your hands has not been affected, unless the filth was actually LESSENED by some of it coming off onto the previously clean wang.

How does it make sense to go wash your hands after this transaction?

A case could be made for washing your hands BEFORE taking a piss...or even washing your wang AFTER taking a piss, but I propose that washing your hands after taking a piss is completely absurd.

yes, I agree, this is hard hitting, important subject matter.

When I do wash my hands, it's not because I touched the equipment, it's generally because of all the other stuff I touched before handling the specialized tools.

I don't know where your dick has been, plus its main function is eliminating toxins from your body. So personally, if you take a leak then, don't wash your hands, I don't really want to shake your hand, high-five you, eat a piece of food you just handled, etc.

Why not just wash both before AND after to keep both yourself and others as clean as possible?

Haha, well if you don't piss on your hands your hands are just as dirty as they were before you took a piss.

Well, it depends on what you're pissing into.

If you're pissing into say a wall urinal, the odds of some backsplash are pretty high, and if you didn't wash afterwards, you'd be running around all day with microscopic piss spatter on your hands. Chances for some backsplash increase if you play target practice with the urinal cakes, and let's be honest; everyone aims for the cake.

Now, if you're aiming down into a normal toilet, it's less likely that you're going to be molested by any stray droplets. So, I'd agree that a handwashing is less important in that context.

However, you can't be sure that the guy before you didn't have problems aiming, and Mr. Piss Hands could have touched all kinds of stuff on the way in, and even refreshed his pisshandedness while doing his thing.

Therefore, I propose that handwashing before AND after is most appropriate, not because of your personal hygiene, but the possible lack of someone else's.

Alright squanto, valid points.

I will however point out that perhaps the fear of urine-on-hands should be considered far less repugnant than most other things getting on hands. Urine, while containing things toxic to the body in excessive amounts, is for the most part sterile...there are not creeping microbes and infectious agents in piss.
(am I really making an argument now for having piss on your hands....?)

haha....also excellent point about the urinal vs toilet. I guess i'm lucky, at work (where this thought originated) we have these urinals with just a hole in the bottom, I always aim down that and have not once had any splashback. Of course I also have exemplary aim...

I'm actually disturbed at the amount of thought I put into that, but this is what happens when you're on a 45 minute phone call with the IRS. :)

What if you dont wear undies and you have on a pair of jeans with the button fly. You could unbutton, shake it out, take a leak and shake it back in again. Button up and off you go.

Being a married woman and having it be my God-given privilege to be in close proximity to 'the equipment' after its been hanging to the left in hot, sweaty pants and (hopefully) underwear all day...and its given its close proximity to the ever toxic poop shoot (I've dated a LOT of guys and never met one that knows how to wipe properly!), trust me, you should wash your hands after you handle the engines.

OK, so it sounds like you have it figured out Yankee: wash before peeing, then piss all over your hands while doing it since piss is sterile and it actually might protect your hands from germs encountered later. Problem solved.

That's because men have hairy butts, and that makes mud-butt so much more of a problem.

Like Yankee mentioned, Urine is sterile.
It's a ripe and warm breeding ground for all sorts of bacteria, but when it exits your body, it's sterile.

Your hands, mouth and nose are the dirtiest parts of your body by far.

Gee stu, sorry to hear about your pissing problems. I've never had the problem of pissing all over my hands, but I guess people who by necessity have to have their hands extremely close to their piss-hole encounter this problem more than myself. Luck o'the draw I guess. :D

haha...awesome post.

And...dear god, I have no desire to know how YOU KNOW that none of the guys you've dated knew how to wipe properly.

and of course, when one enters the fairer sex into this equation, any body part they want washed gets washed.

Because you're touching your dick! And all the gross bathroom germs that comes with touching the door handle and the urinal handle.

Hm...interesting, so you see dicks as being inherently dirty? If you'd like to pay me ungodly amounts of money we can sit down and get to the root of this.

first tell me about your relationship with your father....

I believe you would be arrested under the new health care plan for peeing and not washing...

The urine itself maybe sterile, but the surrounding tissue is generally not. And the urine may serve as a medium or a vector.

If one isn't cut and has poor hygene...if one has contracted an infection...or a silent STD like chlamydia...?

If ones has the propensity of touching one's face or eyes...?

For the benefit of everyone else?
