The Swords; killed off by the impending entry of The Stingers into The WHA in 1975. Fuckers poached Rick Dudley from us, as well. Signed him while he was still under contract to us.

The WHA poached some of the best players in the Hockey world, when they were originally formed - They offered better contracts, profit-sharing and part-ownership of the teams the players joined, and allowed players who were stagnant, or at the end of their respective career's to flourish.

They were also less under the thumbs of ownership and were free of many of the constraints (hair style, facial hair, morality clauses, etc...) that had been imposed by league commisioner Clarence Campbell and the extreme "Old Boy's Network" that governed the NHL at the time.

Bobby Hull, Dave Keon, Gerry Cheevers, Derek Sanderson, Gordie Howe...these were only a handful of the many NHLers that fled to greener pastures.

i guess technically there are two answers here. Tallinder is one, but he only played 2 games that year so i dont really think it counts...anyway, whos the second?

Nothing different than the USFL, XFL, UFL, etc. Especially the USFL...try and pony up the big bucks to get the big names.

Never seems to work though.

Also, we've had Connolly since 2001. He played every game in 2001-2002, which is also the last time he did so.
