Like all the pop punk stuff. I never understood why people always get so elitist when talking about music, as if they have something to prove to the world...

Compensation for an undersized penis? :o

i never got elitist, i never cared what peple listen to. everyones got an opinion, and thats whats awesome about music. nirvana happens to be where i draw the line. i absolutely hate nirvana.

ive tried both sides. being an elitist and being a "i dont care" kinda guy. if my friends want to listen to the new miley cyris single, go ahead. but i will make fun of you. im not going to not be friends with someone cause they listen to country. i guess im inbetween. but there are certain bands who i dispise.

Only the most amazing guitarist on the planet of the Jimi Hendrix, BB King genre. He was influenced by their styles.

/threadjack.

And you are now one of my favorite people ever.

Awww, shucky durn. You say the nicest thangs. <bats eyelashes coquettishly>
I saw him eight times before he died. The last show was in NYC at MSG. People were leaving messages of condolence on my answering machine because I was (and still am) a HUGE fan. I made it a point to go wherever I could to see him. Saw him several times on The Pier in Manhattan (once with his brother's band, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, another time with the Allman Bros., and watched him stand behind his brother, Jimmie Vaughan, trading licks on his guitar.

Wow, I'm very envious of you. He died 11 months before I was born, but he is my biggest influence while playing guitar. I wish with all my heart and soul to be as good as him one day.

Even though I'll never be a fraction of what he was.

but ill keep saying I DONT... thats just my opinion. incidently, when i think of john lennon, however, i dont think to myself "hey, he was slain by some whacko," i think of the beatles. and i think thats how many people who came around after his death feel. could be wrong. i really really hate the beatles though.

no no, i dont think the beatles were helped by his slaying. they were ahead of their time, and while they dont appeal to me, i cant deny their influence.

i prefere bands no one has heard of, buts it not a requirement. i would say an elitist is someone who sticks to one genre, but i bounce to everything, and like some pretty popular bands. the only elitist i would say i am is my mike patton love.

You know who is annoying?

Lady Gaga.

I juuuust found out that she even exists about two months ago, but after doing some research on her, I wish she would just cut the crap. She tries far too hard. Underneath it all she really does have some raw, natural talent, and she could be wonderful, but instead she sings about obvious sex, no mystery at all with it (and she doesn't sing or write songs if that makes sense, when I KNOW she could if she wanted), and her music is overproduced, and in performances she actually tries to be sexy which means that she just comes off looking cheap and fake and not sexy at all, and just... Ugh. It's so frustrating because after seeing her in different environments, I know she could be good... She is wonderful at coming up with melodies, which is what enduring songs are based on anyway, and she is a natural performer when she does not try to the point of being nauseating. And as far as her trying to be mysterious is, she goes about THAT all wrong, too. Ends up having the opposite effect, which is not good at all because it's always the obvious ones that are forgotten, if you know what I mean. I don't mean forgotten as in in ten years nobody will know who she is anymore, but forgotten as in she's just like everybody else in that sense, so she won't be able to captivate for a long while, regardless of whether or not she is still in the public eye. She could be genuinely good, but the girl has no idea how to endure in that sense. It's so annoying! Oh well. I don't think she would be innovative at all, anyway, which is what mainstream music needs so badly because in a big picture sense it's been the same for almost thirty years now, and while it was good for a long while, after a certain number of years it's just... SOMEBODY BE ORIGINAL AGAIN PLEASE AND THANK YOU. I just want to be able to listen to the radio again lol. She could be good, though.

I just thought that this thread looked like a decent place to dump that rant.

Your definition of 'elitist' needs a smidge of revision. :)

There will be no conversation about guitar players without mention of John McLaughlin, Al DiMeola, David Gilmour, Steve Hackett, Alan Holdsworth, and Robert Fripp.

Carry on.

David Gilmore can sing lyrics with his guitar..... rarely does so much depth come out of one instrument. How Eric Clapton....Robin Trower....How about this hottie from Kitaro?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ulc51ZOGQk

Rory Gallgher, Mick Taylor...... Peter Frampton could certainly play with the best of them, at least before he went pop....

Bring him along some time! My older son is learning to play guitar based on what he's see/heard from Robert Fripp. Lofty ambitions; but at least he is one of the few from his generation who understands Fripps influence on music...

I'm learning the guitar because of influence from Stevie Ray Vaughan. His music and guitar playing have prompted me to try to emulate his style and playing.

I've learned some of his things by ear and stuff, which is no easy feat to do.

Honestly I only read like the last 2 pages of this thread and I think H1N1 came up once or twice. Impressed doesn't begin to describe what I am feeling.
