I know it is I am just really tired of people saying Baseball is a hobby. Anyone can play soccer, its the easiest sport to play in the world.

ohh ya know what they say: the hardest thing to do in sports is hit a round ball with a round bat, squarely.

All sports are easy to play. To play well at a higher level is what is very difficult. It's like instruments; we can all learn to play; but rarely do we play well. And by well I mean professional standards. The difference is music has posers who are passed off as legit; and the gullable public will buy it. Pro sport exposes weak links too much to hide them, or pass them off as legit.

Untalented clowns like the Simpson sisters, Hanson, and Brittany couldn't be promoted as sports figures....

I'm watching game four with Missy, and she's astounded at how big CC Sabathia is for a professional athlete. I just showed her a picture of Prince Fielder, just for good measure

uhhhhh....

hitting a round ball, with a round bat, squarily, is the hardest thing to do in any sport. plus they play 162 games. its safe to say out of any pro athlete, baseball players earn their paychecks.

may sound pricky, but, its fuckin tough. then fielding the ball is another issue. pitching is my favourite thing to do.

It may be hard to hit a round ball with a round bat traveling at 90+ MPH, but you do not have to be in tip top shape to play baseball.

Anyone can play baseball and be successful at it.

Playing other very demanding sports is different, and not everyone can just "play" those sports.

no, you dont have to be in shape. but. no, its hard enough catching up to an 85 mph fastball. no movement. and hitting it square. its a beast to catch up to a 104 mph fastball, or 82 mph slider. its the hardest thing to do in sports. and not by a little bit. by a HUGE margin. so the whole "they dont work, or they dont have to be in shape.." its not valid. you either have it, or you dont. thankfully, somehow, someway, i do.

heres my two cents on the issue. to be able to play baseball you really dont have to be in great shape. players like Prince and Cecil Fielder, Sabathia, Ortiz, Matt Stairs, Joba, etc are proof of this. the reality is that most of the players are in good shape. its the same thing with football. the offensive and defensive linemen are huge sometimes. but most of the players arent.

Baseball is a physically/mentally demanding sport (surprising, i know). Like Mike said, hitting a ball thats traveling 90+mph isnt easy by any stretch but them again, nothing in professional sports really is. if it was, a lot more people would be able to do it.

hitting a baseball might be the hardest thing to do in sports. personally, i think the greatest thing in all of sports is a curve ball and the genius that invented it. ****FYI: after the curveball was invented in the early 1900s, pitchers were, more or less, thought to be pussys if they threw one to the batter***

fielder, while massive, actually has some speed. not 4.3/40 speed. but the ole boy moves alot faster then it looks like he would.

but prince fielder is a fucking asshole. but i remember when he was all the rage in detroit cause he was hitting balls out of tiger stadium at age 12. i dont mean over the fence, i mean upper deck shots and roof shots.

prince doesnt need speed, because a middle of the line-up, corner infield guy. but he has the power to hit 50 a year, while batting close to .300..

im also reminded of another tub of lard that had exceptional speed.

This is where my minimal knowledge of baseball comes into play. I do recognize, however, Kirby Puckett. Doesn't he do some crazy inner-city projects and rejuvenation a couple of years ago?
