Kessel era about to begin for Leafs

"Could Phil Kessel be the answer? The Toronto Maple Leafs certainly hope so.

The struggling Leafs could get a boost up front as the 22-year-old star is expected to make his debut Tuesday against the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning.

Kessel, the fifth overall pick in 2006, was traded to Toronto Sept. 18 in exchange for first and second round picks in 2010 and a first rounder in 2011.

The former Boston Bruin has been sidelined for nearly six months after undergoing off-season shoulder surgery. The announcement of Kessel's return to the ice comes as a surprise, as reports suggested the shifty winger would not be ready until late November.

According to Toronto's official website, Kessel skated with the team Tuesday, and pending clearance from Leafs medical staff he will be in the lineup."

...Well, I guess the Leafs are ready to "...crush their enemies, see them driven before them, and to hear the lamentation of their women."

Or, not.

Well they may have a scorer, but if you can't stop pucks from going into your net you won't be too effective.

The monster won the one game, after that they let in say 6 goals or something the next night he played.

The team needs defense who helps their goalie more.

It doesn't help the fact the team is just downright terrible anyways.

who the heck is going to pass kessel the puck, nobody. they really could use the likes of taylor hall but they won't get him unless burke can finagle a way to get his pick back. kessel will help but not as much as they need. the only one who can get him the puck will be kaberle.

Well the game is currently at 1-0 Tampa Bay with Vinny scoring the lone goal by a big mistake by Gust.

Other than Friday, this is the first time I've watched the Leafs this year. Naturally I was rooting for Tampa and then I started thinking about it. "It" being the Leafs 1st rounder - correction the Bruins first rounder. And the next 1st rounder and a 2nd rounder. If the Leafs fail at their current rate, the Bruins are gonna be running things for a good long while. It takes all the fun out of rooting against the Leafs. Why couldn't they have made this idiotic trade with a Western Conference team?

Because no Western Conference team is allowed to trade the rights to a player they don't own!! ;)

Kessel had 10 shots with around 25 minutes of icetime.

Even the Great One couldn't fix this team. lol.

Although Kessel did play well, playing in Toronto going to frustrate him to the point of ripping his own flesh off. Yes he had a lot of chances last night, but he can't do it all by himself. He'll get burnt out quickly. Burke is going to have to make a move now for someone to set the kid up. In a way, I feel bad for him. But then I realize he wanted to go to Toronto, so it's on him. Watch for a lot of the other Laffs to start taking shifts off once he starts potting a few in. This still has a chance to blow up in Burkes face big time.

And I will sit, watch and laugh. All 70 some games left of the season
