Well NFL teams are starting to crack down on Gay bashing... why not have the NHL start? right? haha. I mean Larry Johnson got suspended two weeks by the Cheifs for "gay slurs" so who knows what he said but still.

I think it all comes down to Political Correctnes in the end, while it may not be right to attack people using negative slurs, its all part of the game to get in the opponents head, right?

Bagh, anyways I just imagine that soon enough within the next two years, players will star recieving fines for gay or racial slurs.

Racism and homophobia should not be tolerated in any sport.

I don't care if it gets into their heads or not. Racism is a key for violent crimes, same thing with homophobia. You start to see your star players embracing gays and other ethnic groups, those crimes may go down.

It's the whole idolizing them.

I completely agree with you, it shouldnt be tolerated on any level, or in any sport, Im simply saying that it is a tactic used to get into the heads of the opposing team. Effective, Yes. Wrong, Yes. So if a new rule comes through I'd be willing to bet that there will be a lot of fines coming players ways.

Taking head shots out of the game is something that should be addressed BEFORE this. I'd much rather see a guys "feelers" (a word my nephew uses frequently) hurt than a dude leaving on a stretcher because some asshole decided to put an elbow in his dome at full speed. Fuck this PC BS. I don't give a fuck if you're gay off the ice, if you're not man enough to be comfortable with who you are, then maybe you aren't man enough to play.

Fans used to chant "homo larry" at Dancin Larry at Rangers games, but last season people started getting offended by it...if they catch you doing it at the Garden now, you get das boot.

I think you're right on this one to the point that if it isn't being used against a gay person, then what's the big deal. I am totally against intolerance, but if I call my huunting buddy a homo out in the woods after he just missed an easy shot, then who's it hurting? Nobody. I know it still has connotations, but that's human nature at work. Men will probably always question each others manhood, and this is just changing the terminology, not the meaning. Is that worth fighting for??

Ok, ok, I have to draw the line somewhere on this Political Correctness crap. I see the point on racist remarks, uncalled for, we all bleed red.
But come on man, I can't take the Homo thing, next thing you know the players will be so PC on this issue we'll start seeing Flaming hockey players , instead of checking along the boards all I'll see is guys humping each other or grabbing each others junk for size camparison . And then we would have the worst of all, instead of scoring, they'll skate in and swap recipe's on chicken divine casarole dishes, OH THE INHUMANITY OF ALL!
I'd prefer the Flamers just stay out of the game, could you imagine the fights, someone is liable to get seriously hurt with all the eye gouging
