The issue isnt whether or not the death penalty is a deterrent, nor terrorist, nor any religious issues. We dont need nut bags like this walking around in society. And on the question of deterrence, first, as Plato said, people cannot be just (moral) without the threat of some punishment involved, and that punishment has no merit unless the punishment is related to the unjust act. That being said, do you think that some character who is about to lose it might have enough of his sane faculties left to figure that he will be fried if he continues? Whether or not he would rather die, the innate desire for self preservation may stop him or her from going through with it....aside from all that, the fuck should be locked in a dark solitude room with no fan fare what so ever and shot! But the fucking media will milk this thing ad nausium and make a political, religious, and circus out of this incident totally ignoring (after milking the personal trajedy out of it) the victims and their grieving families.

So basically either way, dude proved his point, shot a bunch of people up, got the media spectacle and his "job" is done now. If he goes to jail or gets killed it wont matter to him. He did his duty and was smart enough to know the reprecussions. He was obviously an intelligent man, so obviously he felt the deaths of these people were more important than his own life. He'll pay the consequence either way

He's already visited with the injured in the hospital. He's ordered flags flown at half staff, which he called a modest tribute, but I personally see as much larger. You don't know everything he's said and done with regard to the victims of this tragedy.
