I'd guess RJ was given the same inspiring pregame pep talk the boys received... :(

Well, we should all be aware that when the Sabres are down a few, RJ's calls are flat when they score, but as they creep up on their opponent, his calls become more vibrant and RJ-like.

He has ALWAYS called games that start out terribly for the Sabres.

As said, RJ being an experienced, seasoned professional, he wouldn't allow a crappy game or personal woes to affect his call so significantly.

However, regardless of professionalism and dedication, sometimes one cannot overcome or fake it when feeling really horrible, so Birdy must assume that RJ has a bug. :puke-right:

I guess. He wasn't this close to retirement with those crappy Sabres teams though. All professionalism and class aside, I'd imagine it's the guys dream to call for a Stanley Cup victory at least once in his career and this particular team dropped hard the last couple of games. It's enough to bring anyone as emotionally invested in the team as RJ down a little bit.

He's only human afterall, and the Sabres have been a major part of his life for the past 30+ years or so.

Two freakin' games. Are you seriously condoning the team after TWO bad games?

Really, are you that much of a twat to do that? I don't care how terribly they played, I don't care if they lolly-gagged around for these two games. Every fucking team in the NHL can't win them all, why are we not bitching about a performance like a 5-0 shutout of the Penguins to the Sharks, or how they have lost 2 in a row also?

Get real dude, bad and outright terrible games happen , no matter how short the schedule is. Sometimes the bounces aren't in your favor, sometimes you're extremely tired from playing too many games in a row, maybe they weren't focused.

82 games is the season, not two games, or three. We are 9-4-1, losing two games in a row was bound to happen sometime. The Sabres are not invincible, and they have played, and proved they can beat any team out there, and then like every other good team out there, have proven they can be beaten.

Well, the thing about it is, up until this point we've played second rate teams in the Yotes, the Islanders, Nashville, Florida, the Leafs and a surprisingly disappointing (so far) Detroit team. This was one of our first real tests to see not only how we play against a real hard-hitting, playoff-contending team, but how we do back to back against higher end teams. And we played miserably. Philly didn't win off of a few lucky bounces, they outplayed us in just about every facet... and we can't expect to always get lucky bounces to win games.

No ones saying I expect them to win 82 games this season and don't fool yourself into thinking I don't realize these slumps are going to happen. It's just a shame it happened at one of our first true tests of the season. Hopefully they bounce right back and give Philly a trouncing next game.

P.S: If I were a Penguins fan, that shutout would probably have me more upset, but im not... so I don't care. Not to mention they're plagued with injuries at the moment, with two of their best players (Malkin and Gonchar) out. I believe Crosby had a little injury at the end of Saturdays game as well.

Injuries are not an excuse for any fan. And playing the Devils was a real test to a playoff team. Phoenix is looking great, off to their best start also, and they have been flirting with the league low of goals allowed also.

And the team has played great the first 9-12 games or so, and have bounced back from some bad losses and to think Enroth would get a win against Boston would have been foolish. If they played like they did in front of LaLime then so help Enroth when he is our backup.

I couldn't watch either games, but I had a bad feeling about Philly as they are probably the toughest team in the entire league and they have been the past two years.

RJ's calls were flat because he was busy in his mad scientist/announcer lab cloning 6 Goose's, 6 Ellis's and 6 Kaleta's. He is probably thinking what I am, if we can't score on these more offensive minded teams, lets BEAT THEM INTO SUBMISSION.....................MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA :)

Have a nice day!

True, because you expect guys to step up and fill those roles, but realistically when you lose your top two players you start to expect to lose a couple more games. Look at the loss of Miller and Vanek last year. Did anyone really expect Lalime to start turning heads? It would've been nice if he did, and we still watched the games and crossed our fingers for a couple of wins, but most fans aren't stupid... we knew losing our star goaltender and our leading goal scorer would hit us hard... and it did.

And I guess the Devils were probably the first real test, but if this squad could've really shown up against Philly and Boston... or at least one... and made games out of them, the confidence and morale of both the players and the fans would be skyrocketing. But like they say, gotta brush these games off and look forward to showing what they can do on Wednesday then hopefully get some wins and collect some points in the rough month ahead.

82-0 is next to impossible. But it would seem like some people fully expect it to happen.

Agreed, but I would like to see 46 to 51 victories in a season to secure a playoff spot

I really think that RJ and most of the team was sick. He sounded sick, the Sabres played sluggish like they were sick. and there were talks of players missing practices and stuff because of flu symptoms. So it makes sense. Hopefully all our boys are healthy now, along with RJ, and the team energy from the first few games can return. Tonights game looked a lot better!
