You don't have shit to prove he's treated as a "God", or isn't classy, it's nothing more than your opinion. Have fun with it.

I don't know if he is classy outside of the sport in daily life or whatever, but in the sport of baseball, Jeter is very classy.

funny story champ. i went to college at western michigan, in kalamazoo where jeter is from. he visits every winter. at the bar one night, he was there. roped off a whole section for him. is was the time he was dating jessica alba, actually. 06?

anyways, sorry to report, he had more then his fair share of college sluts on him, all over him, you can guess the rest. so, if thats classy, then i must be the most cultured guy ever. but, i never based my opinion on him, based on that.

alright fair point, but like I said, that is outside of the sport. find me a time where while wearing pinstripes on a baseball field, Jeter was not classy?

I've stated over and over that I don't think he's a god. It's you that is intent on tearing him down over little and imagined details. It's nothing more than typical Yankee hate, and you're going to have to take number 7,483,956 and stand in line with that.

If this was the real reason behind your criticism, you might show a little more perspective. Then again, I know and remember more about the 1984 Tigers than you do.

I agree with most of what Mike's said, and I was rooting for the Yankees in the World Series. The statistics back up most of Mike's arguments. The fielding metrics and the statline I posted detailing Jeter's regular season batting average with runners in scoring position, and his (much lower) postseason batting average with runners in scoring position do suggest that his repuatation as a clutch player is somewhat overblown.

I think Jeter became the face of some Yankee teams that had many, many very good players around them. As the most marketable and recognizable member of those teams he earned a very lofty reputation. It's not his fault really. He's kind of like the Megan Fox of the MLB.

I like the guy, I think he's a good player who gives it his all on every play. That's something you can't say about most MLB-ers. You could argue that he elevates the yankees by setting this example and I would not disagree with you. But I think if you put him on say, the Twins and give him the same stats you see no rings and a fraction of the recognition.

Range factor and his post season average with RISP are fairly obscure stats to bring up. It reeks of nitpicking. Post season pitching is tougher, or else those teams wouldn't have made it, so most offensive stats go down. FWIW, his post season batting average .313, only four pts below his reg season average, and his slugging percentage is higher in the post season.

Besides, you say this to counter some supposed reputation that he's "Mr. Clutch" or a great defensive player. I've watched him his whole career and never thought those things. He got the "Mr. November" tag for having the winning hit in the first WS game played in November, after the it went past midnight...fair enough. It's just a goofy tag line for sports reporters and fans to throw around, and critics just take it too seriously.

"But I think if you put him on say, the Twins and give him the same stats you see no rings and a fraction of the recognition."

No kidding...and...?

How better to measure clutch than RISP average?

I don't think the argument is that you (1980) personally have an erroneous view of jeter, but baseball fans as a whole. A good aprt of the argument has been that jeter's status ahs been elevated by the uniform, a point your last statement seems to agree with.

You know what?

That's enough.

You're argumentative towards just about everyone who doesn't agree with you 100% on any given subject. You whine and complain every time someone calls you out on it.

Yesterday, in response to being asked politely to not have a drawing of a cock in your signature, you asked me to ban you instead.

Congrats on being the first.

Well sorry irony, but he is one of the greats, (whatever that actually means), and he sure as hell is going into the HOF. He's just like any other very good player that won a lot of titles. Any player that wins that much will get recognition, no matter what your opinion is. I wouldn't tear down Alan Trammell if he won that much just because he didn't have the range of Ozzie Smith or a rocket arm. There are a ton of other good players that never or hardly ever played for good teams. If Tony Gwynn won a bunch of titles, should people say how "over rated" he is because he didn't have a great throwing arm? People don't say that now, but if he got recognition for a bunch of post season success it would be ok??

Go down the list of current HOFers and tell me how many are great five-tool ball players. You won't find many, so again, your criticism rings hollow.
