I think Darcy meant it when he said they were overloaded at gritty RW forward, and expect them to promote a player from Portland before their game with Rochester at HSBC on Thursday. My guess is either Cowan or Ellis, both LW, as Gerbe has been injured.

You mean Ennis? ;)

Mair clears waivers, staying in Buffalo

Sabres forward Adam Mair was hoping to stay in Buffalo, and he got his wish. No teams claimed the 30-year-old off waivers, and coach Lindy Ruff said the Sabres will maintain the status quo with Mair serving as the 13th forward. The Sabres had the option of sending Mair to Portland of the American Hockey League, but they have decided to keep Mair in the NHL for now.

He's still with the team. Clearing waivers doesn't mean they HAVE to send him to Portland.

They could do nothing, send him to Portland, or outright release him at this point.

I'm wondering if this move was a courtesy to Mair to see if he could get picked up on a team that he would see the ice with.

It's a mystery. I love speculating.

ONLY THE SHADOW KNOWS(The Shadow, formerly known as Darcy Reiger) lol

I listened to Ruff's post practice interview, and he seemed a little down but not surprised that nobody picked Mair up. He lamented at length about how there's no room in the lineup for a RW on the 3rd and 4th lines, which leaves Mair stuck indefinitely, or until injury.

I just don't believe this will continue on for long. One other possible angle, BTW, is it was intended to send a message to the players not to feel too safe after playing uninspired hockey this past weekend.

To try and send him to a team where he'll have more playing opportunities, a la Paille. They tried to trade him but apparently he had no takers, so they waived him to see if he would get picked up.

Well heck, all of this excitement for nothing?
Man, I need to dirnk more, its my birhtdauy and welcome to our newest returning team member ADAM MAIR (Crowd goes nuts). Adam has spent the last 24 hours not knowing what the fuck to think, now that he is back in a sabres jersey lets ask him how it feels:

"Adam, how does it feel to be back in a Sabres uniform?"

"Just happy to be here, Since my return I have begun to redecorate the press box, looking forward to those games of cribbage with my press box parnter, Patches"

Well, there you have it folks, on the birthday of Sabres fan Slesh, Adam Mair returns to debut in the press box in Buffalo.

From Adam Mairs Office (Press Box #fuckoff) this is Howard Simon with The Shadow(formerly known as Darcy Reiger) Reporting.

:):):)

BRILLIANT!

I don't think they can call too many men on the ice with this strategy :o

They are essentially interchangeable parts on the fourth line; which is not to badmouth our fourth line, because I think they have been are best so far.

Mair gets paid an NHL salary regardless of his status, or where he plays - so don't feel sorry for him. He also just got divorced, so if you want to feel sorry for him on a personal level, please do so.

I hope Cowan (if he's called up) can fight, because it was sad seeing both Montador and Gaustad getting beat up against Boston. Hecht getting bitch slapped is not such a big deal, because toughness is not on his resume.

Here's hoping for a much better effort against Edmonton and Calagary, so we can all feel better about the team again.

Yes it's only two games, but against two good teams, one of which has suffered injuries to two of their top players. If we didn't have a good record prior to the last two, we'd be in major trouble, as that was an easy span of games.

Let's get it going boy's......

Again... I don't think those were easy games. Philly is a top notch team, and they will contend for the cup this year.

Then, we had to fly to Boston to play a team that had lost 3 straight, and had just returned home.

There was no way Boston was going to lose that game.

I'm not making excuses, because the play could have been better on our side, but I attribute much of our problems to the quality play of the opposition.

I think if you re read what I posted, you'll see that I am saying Philly and Boston are indeed two good teams. I think Philly is better than many people realize.

Howie, you say that now, but I seem to recall you getting rather upset that Hecht got beat in that fight. In your defense, I can see how any Sabres fan could have just blown up at any additional embarrasment from that game.

I thought Rivet would be the toughest Sabre this year - maybe he has stickum on the inside of his gloves?

I have a feeling Rivet's shoulders are pretty shot, and he has been advised/told not to fight. He was a very willing combatent when he first arrived.

His enforcer role needs to be taken over by someone who is a good scrapper. Goose and Montador will drop the gloves; but neither is a match for the league's better fighters, as illustrated last Saturday. (And I'm not even sure Thornton is a heavyweight bruiser himself....)
