4 point night tonight, putting him at 16 points in 16 games.... Isn't that higher than any sabre this season?

Change of scenery was all he needed apparently

Surprised he is that high of a point total.

Many players have a breakout year when they leave, and especially for a guy who is needing to earn another contract for next year.

I still doubt he'll keep up his pace.

But anyone who plays with Kovalchuk should have those numbers. Both of them had 2 goals and 2 assists tonight.

And even after tonight, still only a +1. He's getting scored on left and right too.

Yea, Kots is playing well, too. Seems like one-dimensional, all-offense players do well when they leave the Sabres...OH YEA and make it onto a team with an offensive superstar! Without the dynamite Russians in Atlanta and Gaborik in New York, they'd look like the same old bums.

Kots has 17 pts and is a -7. He has 13 PP pts so that means he's been scored on 11 times at even strength. Not so great looking anymore.

Like I said, one-dimensional, all-offense.

Look at the effort Max is putting into playing in those highlights.

That is a much different Max than what he gave us the past few years.

I don't care what anybody said. He just didn't work hard here. Period. And that's what pisses me off about him.

It has rarely been disputed that Max tried hard... I really have NO IDEA where that came from. He was offensively gifted but just kinda dumb in the sense of how he channelled it. I'm glad he's doing well for Atlanta, and happy for what he did in Buffalo even if he had a rough couple years.

He always tried hard

That's what everyone always says, and that's why I never argue against it.

But if you watched that Atlanta game, and then you watch a Sabres game that Max played in last year, you can tell. Max wasn't trying.

Phil is 100% correct.

Points do not tell the entire story. Max could have 100 points this season, but still have sucked.
No defense players = SHITE

Max and Kots don't know what backchecking is.

Atlanta is scoring at a pretty good clip, but none of their players are that impressive in +/-. Peverley is leading them in scoring also.....

This post is why I am glad Adam Mair almost never sees the ice.

I tend to agree with Phil here. I am very happy they are doing well, but once again, the records of the Rangers and the Thrashers speak for themselves.
They play tough opponents such as Philly, Pitt and NJ and it is showing. A tough division for the Rangers. Atlanta will be battling with Ovie and Caps for top spot in their division.

Offense is needed to keep pace, but they each could use help defensively, thats why I am promoting the Pommers + Tallinder/Lydman + Prospect/Pick for Gaborik from the Rangers or Vanek + Tallinder/Lydman/Prospect/Pick for Kovalchuck from Atlanta

:) :) :)

If the playoffs would start today, the ENTIRE Atlanta division would make it.

2 South East teams would make it, and one NorthEast division team would be in it right now.

So Atlanta is climbing for sure.

So why is it an offensive player that contributes little defense is villified, while a defensive player that contributes little offense can be lauded?

Actually, it is moreso the opposite.

We bitch about Hecht so much because he can't play offense, but plays sound defense for us.

Yet we bitched about certain players 1 dimensional ways of only putting up offense and not backchecking.

It's a world in if you're winning you just don't care who's doing what on the ice as long as they are winning the games.

Kovalchuk about Max's play in Atlanta:

Quote:
"Max seems like he's got a second life in hockey. In Buffalo he just take a beating from the coach, and was told stuff and they bench him. You can't do that to those kind of players. He's one of the hardest working I ever see. Off the ice he's in the gym every day and he's preparing himself. Johnny trusts him and put him in key situations. He feels more comfortable and he gives you results... He's every day, he's smiling, and that's the most important thing. In Buffalo you can't smile. If you smile you sit on the bench."
