All kidding aside viventi, the reason I look for more offensive output is really simplistic.
I firmly believe Buf has the defensive side of things completely under control, with depth in the pipeline.
What I believe the team needs is basically a consistent scorer on the RW to elevate the play of our top 2 centers (Roy/Connolly) and our LWers (Vanek/McArthur).
Especially Vanek and Roy, Stafford hasn't really gained consistent chemistry with them, but a playmaking sniper could really give this line a boost into stardom if the chemistry pans out.

You're preaching to what used to be the choir...The Sabres are in the same boat as the Rangers were last year. They're a decent defensive team, with a good goalie, that is buried in contracts and in need of a star player, a true sniper, a game changer. I know the feeling, believe me.

LOL, Well this statement brought me comfort and pain
That is why I hope Darcy doesn't wait until the end of the season to bring in that caliber of player we need to get to the next level. I am hoping by the trade deadline he does something, Kovalchuck comes to mind, but like you, I think Atlanta keeps him.
I find myself these last couple of days scanning rosters on other teams sites to see who would make a good fit and if we can afford the trade to get him.

A lot of his points come on the PP, keep in mind.

Well then, thats perfect cause thats just the area we appear to be lacking in here in Buffalo, make the trade I say, Send Pommers, Hecht/Tallinder/Lydman and a prospect/pick over to the Rangers for him. Setup Vanek - Roy/Connolly - Gaborik or McArthur - Roy/Connoly - Gaborik. What ever combo works.

If we gave Pommers (23.5 goals avg over 4 seasons if he gets 20 this season, which he is on pace for)
Dumped a defenseman since we have enough in the pipeline to replace Lydman or Tallinder
and Gave a pick and/or prospect or 2 picks (1 = 3rd or 4th rounder)

This would most certainly improve the Sabres to cup contenders in my opinion.

I was talking about Kots points on the PP.

But I totally agree. Gabby would make our team so much better, it's not even funny. We would be a serious cup contender, and if we got him right now, I'd say we'd finish 1 or 2 in the East. But the Rangers just got him, and without him, they're nothing. They ain't giving him up.
